Japan Does Not Like Dudes on Airplanes

Calm before the storm.

Calm before the storm.

Japan is taking a stand against a serious injustice that touches all of us: the daily indignity–nay, the daily TORMENT–of co-ed bathrooms.

Soon, female passengers on Japan’s All Nippon Airlines will enjoy express bathroom visits on international flights, courtesy of a designated female-only bathroom that men will only be able to use in case of an emergency, or an all-male flight (no word on whether ANA considers an all-male flight an emergency?) An All Nippon spokesperson explained that the decision was made because “men often leave the seats up.” And, just like that, All Nippon became the first major airline to make a business decision based on a popular source of conflict on sitcoms. Business history!

Surveys showed that 90% of female passengers supported the idea of female-only bathrooms, but we’re willing to bet guys might bristle at the idea of being kept out of certain lavatories. Bold move, Japan - making the skies more orderly and bathroom lines longer since 2010. Guys, what do you think?

So… Is There a Spa in Paradise City?

Axl Rose took about 200 of us down to Paradise City on Thursday, February 11th, when Guns N Roses (or what’s left of it) made a surprise appearance at the L’uomo Vogue party at the John Varvatos store in New York City. After a 3 hour delay–(I got word he was doing some heavy flirting downstairs)— Axl played a full set, encore included.

Got this little clip on my Blackberry as I thought… is there a spa in Paradise City? Because if there’s not, won’t you please take me here instead?

There looks to be a steam room in Paradise City

Pulling the Plug on Chinese Travel Deals

when-was-the-great-wall-of-china-built

You my have read that search giant and household name Google is planning to pull out of China in protest of the nation’s censorship policies.  But did you know their actions might make it harder to find and book travel deals to China?

Travellers to China and Chinese travel enthusiasts, prepare to have the rug pulled out from under you!

North American travel companies like Expedia and TripAdvisor have invested heavily in China, relying heavily on Google’s patented search results to get would-be travellers to their sites for travel packages and deals. Without Google, travel companies may not want to pay for search listings on other sites and could shift their attentions out of China - which might leave travellers without a favorite online travel resource.

As a big fan of keeping tabs on low airfare thanks to the Internet, there are some key sites (like Yapta and Kayak) that I’d miss a lot. What travel website would you be unable to live without?

(And psst–you know you can find travel deals with no censorship all year round thanks to Travel by Spa Week!)
