Stress Relief for College Students

Sometimes college students get a bad rep these days (especially around the time when The Princeton Review publishes its top party schools list). But let’s give credit where credit is due – college students work hard, and they handle a lot between a heavy class load, extracurricular activities and attempting to maintain a social life. By now, the college semester is in full swing, and as many of us know from experience, the stress is definitely starting to pile on.

Fall Spa Week takes place from October 15-21 this year, which means it falls right in the middle of midterms time for most universities. College students could definitely use some relief from the endless days of office hours and nights filled with energy drinks and no sleep.  Luckily, Spa Week takes place in some of our favorite college towns – so even for the student on a tight budget, just sit tight… relaxation is in sight!

So be a good sport and book a treatment for your son, daughter, niece, nephew or friend (or yourself, if you’re the student!) — and reward someone for her hard work:

Hot Bamboo + Seashells + Champagne = Your Holiday Cure

The doctor is in! Pulled your back lifting the Christmas tree? Sprained your wrist wrapping all those gifts? Or just simply exhausted after 2011? CURE SPA, Malibu’s premier seaside Medical Spa has the… well, cure.

Dr. Lisa Benya is on call and there to discuss with you the best methods for your condition. At the top of her list: hot bamboo, seashells, bubbly, quartz and hot stones. How will these help you this holiday season and beyond? Let’s take a look. CURE accepts Spa & Wellness Gift Cards by Spa Week.

CURE OPTION ONE: Hot Bamboo

This full body Hot Bamboo Massage, brand new at CURE, is a tranquil fusion of hands on massage and heated bamboo application. The bamboo is rolled and massaged in areas of tension to release stress from the body. Warm oil is used to nourish parched winter skin and the pressure is tailored to fit your preference. Hot bamboo massage is an ancient Chinese technique that promotes circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage, providing a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

CURE OPTION TWO: Seashells

Bring the beach to you – spa style. Reverse the effects of time with CURE’s revolutionary Babor© treatment, the SeaCreation, available as a facial or a body treatment. It’s derived from the depths of the sea using algae and other ingredients to energize and repair the skin. This truly unique experience uses tigress seashells.

CURE OPTION THREE: Champagne

Pop the bubbly! In CURE’s Champagne Facial, a yeast extract of French champagne nourishes and stimulates the skin. The extract helps guard against free radical damage from environmental toxins, while leaving your skin with an effervescent glow. The treatment also includes a hand and foot massage. Cheers to that!

CURE OPTION FOUR: Rose Quartz

CURE’s Rose Quartz Facial is a gentle facial includes a luxurious massage with rose quartz on the skin to regenerate and promote cell growth. This beautiful stone of the rain forest is known for its healing properties and high mineral content. This treatment includes a warm hand paraffin dip.

CURE OPTION FIVE: Hot Stones

Dying for a long, delicious, post-holiday massage to really WOW you? Based on a holistic approach, this 80 minute treatment uses shiatsu techniques and hot stone massage to balance and stimulate Qi (the flow of energy) and to relax mind and body.

And the options don’t stop there! Check out CURE to cure all your woes, any time of year, with all sorts of normal and strange objects alike. And perhaps to also take a long dip in this very lovely, romantic bath…

Travel Tuesday: Feeling Jet Lagged? The Spa at Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara Can Help

Our ability to be across the country in less than six hours is quite extraordinary. Whether we are visiting relatives or taking a dip in a mud bath in South America – we are traveling more than ever. There are some downsides: TSA’s 3 fluid ounce liquid restrictions, security lines, the strip-searching of unsuspecting elderly women, and jet lag. Switching time zones can really throw off your sleeping routine. The Spa at Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara has  introduced new eco-conscious signature treatments that have just the cure. These treatments include H. Gillerman Organic products. Hope Gillerman is a leading holistic practitioner and aromatic healer.

The four massages are intended to specifically address health problems brought on by a stressful lifestyle, such as jet lag and flu symptoms. Enjoy all these treatments with spa’s oceanfront views that are sure to relax anyone, even after driving in LA traffic.

The spa’s four organic aromatherapy massages include:

Pure Breathing: Helps you ward off cold and flu symptoms with a Sinus Remedy (eucalyptus, orange, petitgrain), which clears breathing passageways, decongests, and relieves swollen glands. The Chest Remedy (spruce, fir, cardamom) reduces aches and pains, allergies and fatigue.

True Relaxation: Induces deep muscle relaxation and eases stress  with a Stress Remedy (lavender, tangerine, sandalwood), which soothes the nerves, while the Muscle Remedy (basil, birch, vetiver) relieves muscle pain and chronic tension.

Natural Rest: Helps you get back into your regular sleep routine. The Travel Remedy (litsea, cedarwood, palmarosa) relieves jet lag and helps the body adjust to seasonal shifts. The Sleep Remedy (bitter orange, clary sage, lavender) helps with sleep quality and insomnia.

Clear Mind: Improves mental focus (so toss out that Smart Water!). The Tension Remedy (peppermint, lavender) relieves headaches and revives mental focus and alertness. Jaw Clenching Remedy (chamomile, vetiver, patchouli) calms mental activity, allowing one to slow down and shift gears to help alleviate tense facial muscles and night grinding.

The eight H. Gillerman Organics exclusive formulas  are made from the highest concentrations of the finest quality, unprocessed, undiluted, unaltered, organic essential oils from around the world. They help in aiding the natural healing process by acting as probiotics and eliminating toxins. The entire H. Gillerman Organics line is produced and use environmentally-friendly packaging.

Take these products home with you after your treatment with their line of retail products. All eight remedies are packaged into two options: 100% essential oils applied to prescribed points on the body throughout the day; or a roll-on body oil blend applied directly to areas of discomfort. Both  can double as personal scents or even can be used as soothing bath oils.

Honoring Our Military Men & Women (With Massages)

Today isn’t just 11/11/11, it’s Veteran’s Day, a day for us to thank the servicemen and women of this country. Our small tokens of gratitude are incomparable to the sacrifices they’ve made for us. So be sure to take the time to say “thank you” and let them know you are grateful.

Many soldiers return home with battle scars (or even more severe injuries). We can’t think of anyone who deserves to be rubbed down and healed with the power of a massage more than our military men and women. We know the healing capabilities of a massage which can offer relief after a major surgery or after several tours of duty.

Massage Envy supports the troops and provides a military discount year round. In honor of Veteran’s Day they are offering a FREE one hour stress-relieving massage. Not only is this for active military personnel but retired and spouses of military personnel as well.

Find participating locations near you on Massage Envy‘s website. Most locations in New Jersey, Arizona and Las Vegas accept the Spa & Wellness Gift Card by Spa Week – check our gift card spa directory for details.
