No Shave November, Movember Mustaches… This is a Thing

Warning ladies… you may be wondering why your man has tossed out his razor. Well, a liquor company has launched a movement called “No Shave November.” Contestants submit their manliest beards in order to win. The prize?  Bragging rights and the party of a lifetime with friends. Oh the things men will do for some free beer…

We’ve seen athletes keep the beard during the playoffs in hopes of swaying the sports gods in their favor. One particular athlete garnered lots of attention for his grizzly beard: Brian Wilson of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants went on to win the World Series in 2010… was it the beard? We’ll never know…

AND THAT’S NOT ALL that’s happening this month. Maybe it’s not a full on grizzly bear face your man is growing… perhaps it’s just a creepy looking Fu Manchu on his upper lip? The explanation for that is that this is also Movember. This time for charity – men are growing out their ‘staches for prostate cancer research and other causes.

The good news: it’s only a month. Hmm… wonder what our man would say if we didn’t shave for a month? Or if we skipped our lip-threading appointment this month? That’s right boys – be afraid… be very afraid!

Spa Deals: Get Pampered Like a Sports Star

USA Women's Soccer Team after beating Brazil

With so many exciting, history-making events happening in the world of sports these past few weeks, what better time to match our favorite athletes with some well deserved spa deals featured during the month of July on www.SPAWEEK.com/Deals!

David Beckham

To celebrate the birth of his fourth child, and first girl, Harper Seven (born July 10), Beckham will have to get in touch with his femine side. Beckham should take advantage of Anush Hair Design’s deal Choice of Hair Cut with Blow-Dry, Full Head of Highlights or Lowlights, or Full Head Base Color for $50. Plus, it’s in Beverly Hills, CA so Becks won’t have to go far from Posh, Harper and the Boys.

Derek Jeter

After hitting his highly anticipated 3,000 career hit (a home run no less), the NY Yankees captain can finally breathe a little easier now that he has the eyes of the sports world off his back. For added relaxation, Jeter is sure to need some pampering. He can take a nice Sunday drive down the Jersey Turnpike to Ageless Skin Solutions in Marlton, NJ 08053 for a 75 Min Sports Massage with Muscle Therapy Back Treatment for $79, normally $199 (he can bring GF Minka Kelly too for the 90 Min Bliss Package too! It includes 60 Min Hot Stone Swedish Massage, Peppermint Scalp Massage and Naptime Foot Massage for $79, normally $199).

Rafael Nadal

After losing to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon last week, Rafael is going to need two things: more practice and more relaxation. In order for Raf to get ready for the US Open in August, we recommend he head to Sycuan Golf & Tennis Resort in San Diego where he can for log in some practice hours on their 11 beautifully manicure courts and receive 10% off 50 Min treatments and 20% off 80 Min treatments at their luxurious spa.

Tiki Barber

The sports world has been a flutter ever since famous and scanadlous running back and former NY Giant, Tiki Barber decaired he would be coming out of retiirment. There are going to be a lot of eyes on Tiki as he prepares for his debut, making his appearances even more important now than when he was on camera as an NFL compentator for ESPN. He’s been in the gym, but has he been to the spa? We suggest that Tiki head to Renew Beauty Med Spa & Salon in  Dallas, TX to get his grooming on, with 25% off on Laser Hair Removal, perfect for his signature bald head. He won’t need a barber after that!

Abby Wambach

With only seconds to go, and the score 2-1 Brazil, USA’s Abby Wambach ran the length of the field to finish a pass from her teammate with a game-tying header, to bring the Women’s Soccer World Cup game into overtime. After this tremendous effort, the USA, dubbed Team Destiny, beat Brazil, 5-3 in penalty kicks. With the season over, Abby and her team are left to bask in the glory of their success, while tending to their wounds and enjoying some time off before preparing for another amazing season. For some full-body healing, Abby can head over to Rock Spa at The Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego for this month’s deal:  an 80 Min Head to Toe Package: includes 50 Min Customized Massage, 30 Min Reflexology and Aroma Scalp Massage. Based on availability and may not be combined with any other offer. Gratuity based on full value. Special: $99; Originally: $205. (Get it? HEAD to TOE!)

SportySexyCool: 9 Picks by Celeb Stylist Lauren Rae Levy

After a rather sports enthused week of cheering on our favorite futbol and  basketball teams, we’re ready to leave the gritty and get back to the pretty things in life. We enlisted the help of Celebrity Stylist and Fashion Guru Lauren Rae Levy to do just that. Looking back on our week of fan fare she picked out 9 sporty fashion pieces that can take you from the field to the fiesta.

1. Adidas by Stella McCartney Run Performance Woven Shorts, 49.00

The perfect black workout shorts. Why? When shorts are looser on the thigh, your legs look thinner.

2. Toggery Sammi Cropped Stretch Legging, 42.00

Loving mid calf length leggings for summer, but more importantly why a brand like Toggery specifically for leggings?  They are comfy, fit well, and ECO-FRIENDLY!

3. LNA Cropped Mesh Sides Tee, 90.00

Wear a black bra underneath and you are good-to-go in the cutest workout top (vents on side) ever!

4. Nation LTD Black Oversized Deep VNeck Tee, 94.00

Love that it is oversize and made of Model– the PERFECT fitting black tee on ANYONE.

5. VPL Breaker Tank, 122.50

You can get a lot of use out of a tank like this.  Great for layering all year round, great for jeans, or great for a nice walk!

6. American Apparel Striped Thigh High Sock, 15. 00

The red, white, and blue are my fav, patriotic and they remind me of that retro roller girl look!  Rock them with shorts and a tank. Keep it simple.

7. American Apparel Printed Nylon Legging, 42.00

How fun are these? They are “aztec” inspired patterns and the colors are vibrant for summer.

8. TOM’S Seaport Women’s Vegan Classic, 54.00

The most comfortable shoes EVER, but it gets better:  with every pair purchased, TOMS gives a pair of new shoes to a child in need!  I call them the “mitzvah shoe” and I live in mine.

9. Ron Herman Sparrow Fade Sweatpants, 135.00

I love all of the colors, they look adorable with a simple Hanes tank, and they are the most comfortable sweats I own.  Plus, they are handmade in USA and Free City always sends positive messages through their “signature” marking on all items.

3 Reasons to Make Your Own March Madness and Play Basketball

basketballFor college basketball fans, the NCAA tournament is like heaven – and with a host of upsets, there’s certainly no lack of excitement in this year’s Sweet Sixteen. But guess what: basketball is just as fun to plat as it is to watch. To inspire you to get off the couch and head out for a pick-up game (though we certainly don’t intend for you to miss any games – everyone knows staring at the TV prevents your bracket from being busted), here’s the top 3 reasons to take a break from the tube and start your own tournament.

Aerobic health - All the running and jumping is a fabulous aerobic workout, right up there with running – but the pivoting, feinting, and directional changes required by a game of basketball give you the increased flexibility in your joints and muscles that running just can’t.

Overall coordination – The skill you’ll develop directing the ball into the hoop will strengthen your eye-hand coordination and overall spatial relations…which will, of course, make it that much easier to wield the remote with gumption during the tournament.

Emotional balance/fun - If you usually head to the gym alone, playing with friends or a pick-up league helps you switch up your workout and introduce a social element that’s too often given short shrift. By having fun with others, the time will go quicker and you’ll be far less likely to come up with all those convenient excuses for not working out.

Tiger texts, Alex Chilton, NCAA March Madness…the Zit List | 03.19.10

litlist-header

Welcome to the Zit List, where we tell you exactly what to think about the week that was.

zitlist-scale

Link: Tiger Trauma
Things probably can’t get much worse for Tigs – one of his mistresses released the text messages he sent her. Yeah, yeah, the affair stuff is disturbing, but far MORE disturbing is the fact that the text messages suggest that Tiger thought he was a CIA agent in the process.
Rating: 3 zits

Link: The Day the Music Died
Influential musician Alex Chilton passed away this week due to a heart attack after a long career in the industry. He helmed the Box Tops at age 16 and Big Star during the 1970s; in the ensuing decades, legions of indie and pop artists alike were influenced by his sound.
Rating: 5 zits

Link: Don’t Stop the Madness
March Madness is upon us, and many brackets have already been thrown askew by upsets of top-seeded teams. 1 zit in deference to those teams’ dashed dreams, but underdogs are always more exciting. Put your seatbelts on!
Rating: 1 zit
