Blaynistas Invade Carol’s Daughter

We sent dozens bloggers all across the country to preview some Spa Week appointments to give you a sneak peek at Fall Spa Week’s #50dollartreatments everywhere! After Mommy Niri and Angela from Lip Gloss Break, we sent beauty editor, Channing from The Blay Report to The Back Room Hand & Foot Spa at Carol’s Daughter in Harlem, NYC to preview the Sweet Almond Treat Manicure and Pedicure including Cuticle Treatment and Gift with Purchase of Almond Cookie Frappe Body Lotion that they are offering for Spa Week for just $50.

The Best Part: Channing got to choose between a bunch of high-end nail polishes like Ginger & Liz, Chanel and Deborah Lippmann — along with our favorites Essie and OPI. Channing was thrilled to try a top-of-the-line lacquer as she had never had this option at any other spa she’d been to before. Thankfully,  the somewhat daunting task of sorting through hundreds of brands and shades was minimized by a showering of mimosas! Channing got to ask lots of questions and was overjoyed that her manicurist didn’t seem to mind she had lots of questions. She even got some expert advice, below:

Insider’s Spa Tip: The actual treatment was really relaxing with the non-traditional set up. My gorgeous manicurist, Lekendra was super sweet. I asked her how readers can take care of their feet at home. You know, so you aren’t embarrassed when you show up for your appointment. I kid– kind of. “People who have rough patches of skin, can get a foot paddle and rub underneath the sole,” she said. She suggests doing it on dry skin, and clean up the excess after a shower when your skin is damp. But not too often ‘Nistas and ‘Nistos, our girl Lekendra says no more than twice a week. You could actually could make the callous situation worst. After sloughing off your dead skin, load up on the heavy moisturizer and wear cotton socks so the moisture is able to soak in. Then you won’t be so embarrassed to bare your feet for Lekendra.

In her own words: “I can’t tell you ladies how much I enjoyed my time at The Back Room Spa at Carol’s Daughter. My Sweet Almond Treat Manicure and Pedicure with cuticle treatment and gift with purchase of Almond Cookie Frappe Body Lotion (smells soo good) hit the spot!”

Spa Party Appetizer: Cheeseball + Avocado Mask

Having a Spa Party in Honor of Spa Week? Then you are in luck! A few weeks ago, I was parusing the internet for some spa-worthy recipes. Low and behold, I hit the jackpot! I am now OBSESSED with the creative cooking blog, Hungry Happenings written by author, chocolatier and party planner, Beth Jackson Klosterboer, so much so that I am having a Halloween-themed brunch for my girlfriends at my apartment in two weekends, featuring some of Beth’s delectable dishes. (Most likely the Sugared Egg Roll Ghosts and the Crackling Witch Crackers and Full-Moon Dip.)

Please check out Beth’s latest recipes for easy, fun and festive recipes and pick up her book, Hungry Halloween on Amazon just in time for All Hallow’s Eve.  The Spa Party Appetizer recipe, featured below, is not only delish, but it will only take you about 30mins from start to finish!

Ingredients:

  • 2 – 8 ounce blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 8 ounces Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1-2 tablespoons taco seasoning (season it to your taste)
  • 1 fresh mozzarella cheese roll
  • 1/2 cup guacamole or pureed avocado*
  • 2 slices cucumber
  • 1 roasted red pepper

*Beth prefers the flavor of guacamole on the cheese ball, but you may just like pureed avocado. She suggests that if you are using store bought or fresh guacamole, strain it through a fine mesh stainer to remove all of the chunky bits

Special Equipment Needed:

  • plastic female face mask
  • food handling gloves, optional

Directions:

1.Wash the face mask with warm soapy water. Dry. Line it with a piece of plastic wrap.

2. In a bowl combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese, Monterrey Jack cheese, and taco seasoning. Stir well to combine.
3. Press the cheese mixture into the face mask.
4. Smooth out the top surface then fold the plastic wrap up over the cheese and smooth out even more.
5. Remove from mold and set it on a serving platter.
6. Use your finger to smooth away the wrinkles (“Wouldn’t it be great if that worked in real life?” – Yes, Beth!)
7. Unroll the mozzarella cheese roll onto a cutting board.
8. Cut out a 10″-12″ piece of flat cheese. Cut that piece in half lengthwise.
9. Pick up one strip of cheese and set it at a diagonal across the left side of the face.
10. Press the cheese up against the head. You want to form the cheese around the top and side of the head then cut off the excess cheese.
11. Lay the second piece of cheese in the opposite diagonal direction across the right side of the face and repeat the process.
12. Spread guacamole or pureed avocado over the face.
13. Place cucumber slices over the eyes.
14. Cut lips out of roasted red pepper and place on face.
15. Serve with crackers and enjoy!

Take a Lip Gloss Break for Absolute Beauty

A few weeks ago, we hooked up dozens of bloggers all across the country to preview some Spa Week appointments to give you a sneak peek at Fall Spa Week’s #50dollartreatments everywhere! First, we sent Mommy Niri to Visible Difference Day Spa. Now we’re sending  Angela from Lip Gloss Break over to Indigo Salon, Spa & Boutique in Canton, MI to preview the 75 Min Absolute Beauty Package, includes 30 Min Indigo Classic Pedicure and Selection of 15 Min Chair Massage or 25 Min L’Oreal Power Dose Deep Conditioning Treatment and Blow Dry treatment that they are offering for Spa Week for just $50.

The Best Part: The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as Angela had a wedding later that afternoon!  After receiving the deep conditioning treatment and a luxurious blow dry, Angela got a envy-worthy full-service pedi with a shoulder rub, gossip mag and a delish ‘frappevino,’ which is a wine slushie.

What Made it Special: Angela chose a deep pink on her tootsies and shared this great insider fact: “for $2 extra, she bottled up a ‘to go’ nail polish bottle for me, for touch ups. I thought this was such a neat idea, especially since I’m always paranoid my color will chip and I won’t have a bottle with me to touch up.” Read all about the treatment and Angela’s experience at LipGlossBreak.com

In her own words: “My experience at Indigo Salon was above expectations. Their facilities and staff were amazing. $50 for the two treatments I received is a great deal.”

How to Look 16 Years Younger Like Mommy Niri

A few weeks ago, we hooked up dozens of bloggers all across the country to preview some Spa Week appointments to give you a sneak peek at Fall Spa Week’s #50dollartreatments everywhere! First, we sent busy mommy blogger, Niri from Mommy Niri to Visible Difference Day Spa in Andover, MA to preview the 50 Min Hydrating, Deep Cleansing and Oxygenating Facial that they are offering for Spa Week for just $50.

The Best Part: Niri got to experience the pore purifying, anti-wrinkle Hydradermie Oxgen Facial and boy, is there beaucoup de science behind this facial! Niri got her highly skilled, expert estheticain to explain to her why and how the facial knocks 16 years off the appearance of your skin. Click play to learn more and read the full post on MommyNiri.com.

In her own words: “Now I don’t have acne or problem skin (I know, you’re hating me again right? How about I confess that my bathroom scale hates me?) so when spas promise to solve my skin issues they normally aren’t a big deal to me. I mean I have some dryness but I really expected to see no difference, even though I was being convinced of this revolutionary practice from France. The Visible Difference Spa definitely earned their name. When I looked at the mirror I was like “Wow”. I mean other than my skin looking so fresh, tighter and evenly toned – those dark circles were highly diminished. Yeah that me is with zero makeup. She promised me it would continue to look better each day later and she was not kidding.”
