I am a skin stickler. Since the age of 16 I’ve been slathering on SPF 70 every day and taking off my makeup before bed every night without fail. I’m aware that my 28-year-old face looks a little like 22, and I intend to keep it that way. Facials are also a regular part of my stickler regime.
One of my favorite skincare brands is Jurlique – I’ve been a fan of their products for a while. Not only are they effective, but they use biodynamic ingredients which are better for the planet and for my skin. If their at-home stuff was so great, I was curious as to what their spa could do for me. I decided to try their 50 minute signature revitalizing facial during Spa Week. It typically costs $115, but with the Spa Week special I got it for $50 (no complaints here).
I arrived to a beautiful and tranquil setting the Jurlique in Santa Monica and was greated by my aesthetician Lauren. She was super sweet and informative. She explained the benefits of all the products she was using while she gently cleansed my skin. I love being able to ask questions during a facial – I always come home with new tricks of the skincare trade! She also gave me a few samples to take home of some products she thought might benefit me.
After the appointment I felt incredibly relaxed and refreshed. Later that day I met up with some girl friends for dinner. ”You’re GLOWING!” my friend said. I was glowing… no joke. I felt it not just on the surface, but inside too. Spas have magic powers, they really do!
Can’t wait to go back… just not sure if I can wait all the way till October Spa Week……..

During Spa Week this spring, I was delighted by an amazing pedicure at the Tocaloma Spa at the Hilton Tapatio Cliffs resort in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s stunning there! The service included a warm hand treatment and a luxurious pedicure. The pedicure included all the joys of perfect foot pampering: whirlpool soak, cleansing, exfoliating, grooming, polish and a relaxing massage with hydrating lotion. My technician was friendly and nice and did an awesome job.
However, at the end of my treatment I was asked if I wanted a warm neck wrap. Thanks but no thanks, it was 105 degrees in Phoenix that day – I’d rather jump in an ice bath!! (Or that pool…)

Cops tried to rain on my spa day. On my way to my Spa Week treatment I received a $90 driving ticket!
Oh the stress! Why oh why!? Good thing I was on my way to a massage.
Once I arrived at Agora Spa at the Stamford Marriott Hotel in Connecticut, all my transportation worries melted away. I was given chocolate and whisked into the locker room. I slipped into my robe and then waited in the relaxation area. The atmosphere was calming and soothed my mind and body immediately. My $50 treatment of choice was the 50 minute Agora Signature Massage sent me into a state of bliss; this was just what I needed.
The best way to truly enjoy your spa day? Make it last as long as possible. So after my massage I made a bee-line back to the relaxation room and spent over an HOUR there! I indulged in my afternoon by sipping chilled cucumber water and doing nothing but relaxing. I also had a cup of tea with honey! My experience at the spa was nothing short of heavenly.
I left refreshed and recharged.
I stayed this way by not getting a ticket on the way home.
Spa Week Story Winner #1: The Bomb!

Have you fallen into post-spa depression (PSD)? Spa Week Spring 2012 may be over but the memories and benefits will last a lifetime! Last week we asked you for your Spa Week stories in exchange for more spa in the form of $50 Spa & Wellness Gift Cards for five of you. Winner #1 and her mom discovered The Bomb.

This was my first time getting a Thai Bomb Massage and it really was THE bomb! I took my mom with me to Enliven Body Works in NYC on the Sunday of Spa Week, and when we left the spa all she kept saying were two very powerful, happy key words: “BRAND. NEW.”
I have nothing but positive things to say about this spa. Enliven is small yet tidy and clean. Decor was simple but nice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were greeted with a smile and offered a glass of lemon water as soon as we entered. We were then escorted to a seating area and had our coats removed.
We didn’t wait long before we were escorted to our massage rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Lily started my massage to the sound of relaxing spa music and scents. She started with a Swedish massage followed by the Thai massage with two heated herbal-filled balls (the bombs). It was like nothing I’ve experienced before. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The heated herbal balls were so soothing, relaxing and therapeutic. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
I’ve since I recommended this spa and massage to all my friends. I cannot wait to re-live it. And my mom’s words are still echoing in my head: “I feel brand new!”
Thanks, Spa Week, for the wonderful (or should I say bomb!) experience! Looking forward to Spa Week Fall 2012. :)
