WE’RE HIRING! New Blogger/Social Media Asst

It’s a bittersweet day here at Spa Week Daily… our fabulous blogger Candace Amos just informed us that in two weeks, she will be moving on. Over the past 14 months she’s helped curate much of the content you’ve read here, from breaking the news that men care more about hair than boobs, to how to rock the camel trend for fall and neon-bright lips for spring, to the inspiring story of the 95-year-old who set a running record. We will miss her very much and wish her every bit of success in her career!

But that being said, out with the old and in with the new… Spa Week Daily is now hiring a brand new part time blogger/social media assistant. Please pass this along to anyone you think would be a great addition to the Spa Week team—someone whose stories you’d love to read here on Spa Week Daily.

The position is paid, hourly. The Spa Week headquarters are in Union Square, New York City. You MUST be able to work at least 24 hours per week, IN office. This is a position that will be part-time to start, with the potential to turn into a full time, salaried position. We are a very small department in a relatively small company, both of which are expanding rapidly, so we are really looking for someone who is excited at the opportunity to help us grow, and ultimately grow with us.

Qualifications:

You are a college graduate.
You are highly organized and detail-oriented.
You are a fast and witty writer with experience in blogging and social media.
You tweet because it’s fun, you might have your own blog, and you are familiar with how to work various social sites that generate web traffic.
You love reading blogs and being the first to share news.
You have an interest in, and general knowledge of, spa, beauty, health, travel, bridal, fashion and fitness topics.
You have a minor crush on Excel spreadsheets.
You are a multi-tasker and thrive in an environment where you are juggling many projects at once.
You are creative, and you are the type of person who’s always coming up with new ideas and wants them heard.
You would enjoy covering local events and you would feel comfortable interviewing estheticians and celebrities alike.
You are able to take direction and execute projects from beginning to end.
Video editing and design skills a plus.
You have good follow-up and follow-through.
You are both a self-starter and a team player.
You happen to love a good massage.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Daily blogging – multiple posts per day, both assigned and creative, under all the various Spa Week Daily topics.
Research, fact-checking, interviewing and note-taking.
Online PR – connecting with bloggers and editors to build brand buzz.
Managing communities on various social networks, ranging from Twitter to StumbleUpon.
Managing and updating press lists.
Keeping schedules and booking appointments.
Assisting in all aspects of the social media department, from Twitter parties to real parties.

If this description sounds like you or someone you know, please email your resume, a brief email cover letter, 3 relevant writing samples (can be links), and links to your Twitter, blog, or any other social communities you manage to me at michelle at spaweekmedia dot com.

Fashion Week Blogger Breakroom Spa Party Recap

Valentine’s Day may be over but the love is here to stay! Spa Week Daily co-hosted the LOOKBOOKS.com/Fashion Indie Blogger Breakroom on Monday, along with Kimmie Smith of Kitten Lounge, where over 200 bloggers came for a break in the Fashion Week circus of craziness to recharge their minds, bodies and phones.

This was no grab-your-giftbag-and-go affair… guests lingered for hours to get massaged, spray tanned, waxed, vajeweled, drunk…  there was SO much to do all day long! Let’s take a little tour of the highlights, shall we?

BEST DRESSED BLOGGER COMPETITION, sponsored by Spa Week Daily

Step… and repeat. Good looks, bloggers! The winner of this fierce competition gets a Spa Week Gift Card and a pair of Manolos, and YOU decide the winners. VOTE NOW! Who had the cutest outfit? (Feel free to vote for me even though I won’t accept the prize – yup thanks LOVE YA)

PAMPER PARTY! Services by Spa Merge and NK Salon

Massages, facials, manicures, eyebrow waxes… things bloggers crave, need and die for in between fashion shows. Although I did not experience Olga myself, talk on the town is that Spa Merge’s massage therapist was making miracles happen on the backs of the  bloggerati.

The COBRASNAKE Invasion

What’s a spa party without an out-of-whack LA photographer in a zebra Speedo getting spray tanned by B.Bronz and blinged out by Completely Bare, NYLON TV film crew in tow? You got nothin. Mark Hunter, AKA The Cobrasnake, gave us lots of love for the holiday. It’s Valentine’s Day, and he’s got a heart on.

THE BEST ACCESSORIES

Bloggers discovered two sumptuous accessory lines that I can’t wait to tell you about: 1, the brand new Koza is a London-based brand of travel bags, wallets, kimonos, kids clothes and accessories, inspired by The Mahabharata (a study of dharma, karma, and apparently a knack for it-bags). And then there was Louise Manna, a jewelry line that has mastered drapery and construction. Want. It. ALL.

POP goes the spa party

Every New York party goer knows it’s not a party without popchips, and Cocktail Colin‘s U’Luvka vodka cocktails are some of the city’s classiest creations.

Love to all our Valentines for partying with us! More pics on Facebook.

2010

Twas the night before Christmas…

twitter_bird_for-christmas ’Twas the night before Christmas and all through the street,
Not a blogger was blogging, not even a tweet.

No Tumblr was Flickring, no status was shared,
For once in their lives… nobody cared.

Companies’ ad spends were suddenly frugal,
And the world had stopped spinning on an axis of Google.

RSS feeds disappeared on a sled,
Mashable predicted a silent night ahead.

When flawless real-time searching just would not suffice,
The notion of NOW took a piece of advice.

2.0 took a seat and real life took the stage,
Spa Week Daily and the world were on the same page.

Enjoy the little luxuries of the holiday season,
Do things that make you smile— with or without reason.

Relax, indulge, be healthy, be true…
And in 2011, don’t forget about YOU.

Happy holidays!!!

Spa Week Daily’s Top 10 Moments of 2010

Wow, what a year it’s been! We laughed, we cried, we got massaged… and here are the ultimate highlights. After analyzing our page views, stats, and your collective social media reactions, here are Spa Week Daily’s top 10 most popular blog posts, moments, contests and phenomenons from 2010.

Thank you all for reading Spa Week Daily and being part of the Spa Week community—you have no idea how much each of your comments, likes, @replies and support means to us! It makes us smile every single time, and you truly make it all worthwhile. We hope you enjoy this little trip down SWD memory lane. It was fun to write, and we can’t wait to do it all over again in 2011!

10. FACT: YOU LOVE YOUR PETS

Anything that barks, meows and shows up on Spa Week Daily turns to gold. Coming in at #10 is the domestic animal kingdom, from the growing phenom of Doggy Spas, the holistic healing of Reiki for Pets, to some Kitty on Kitty massage action. Pamper your pets right, and they’ll give you all the lovin’ in the world.

9. SPA-RRIVIDERCI! ADVENTURES IN ROME & TUSCANY

Yes, I spa’d and ate my way through Rome and Tuscany, but believe it or not, the euro massages were not the best part.  What I loved more than anything was being able to share and communicate with you all through social media along the way. WIN ITALIA was the #1 most trafficked Italy post, but collectively the entire Spa-rrividerci series takes the Panna Cotta.

8. STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER

On many Mondays, as you know, we celebrate the joy that music brings to our lives with various playlists, created in part by you. Your favorite of all the playlists? Best of the 60s: Your Flower Power Playlist. That decade of music gets some serious R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

7. CELEBRITY SPA ARREST: 50 CENT

You know we love sending real people to the spa for real, AND that we  love sending celebrities to the spa for fake. You were all pretty jazzed/grossed out about Hilary Swank’s hairy pits, but Fitty’s dramatic weightloss was your favorite draw-dropping spa arrest of the year.

6. SWAG ALERT!

Sure, we’re crowdpleasers. We give away so much stuff on a monthly basis that it’s astonishing we have anything left. You love all the free  beauty and spa giveaways on our SWAG page, making it consistently one of our top trafficked pages, so we’ll keep it coming, baby.

5. FIJI and BORA BORA and iPHONES, OH MY

Even more than swag, you loved our 10 iPhone giveaway to celebrate our new app, our collaboration with People Magazine to give away a $20,000 trip to Fiji, and our Wed Like a Celeb sweeps that sent this happy new couple to Bora Bora as part of the ultimate A-list bridal package. We also gave away luxurious spa days to 28 lucky winners our National Wellness Giveaway back in February, along with a ton of other amazing giveaways. It’s been a year of wins all around!

4. BELOW THE BELT

Not even mentioning the #1 item on this list (wait for it…), a slew of new below-the-belt preening and pampering has caught your attention in a big way this year. One might even say that 2010 is the Year of The Vagina, but the Chinese Zodiac and Tiger might get wildly offended. You loved completely bare‘s introduction of the Vatoo, the Live Spa TV segment of my Bikini/Bum Facial, and this week’s newsflash that women are steaming out their vaginas with herbs for $75 and up.

3. 12 HOTTEST SPA TREATMENT TRENDS

Botox On The Go, Reiki, Acupuncture and Instant Inch Loss treatments such as 7E all made the hottest spa treatments list for Fall 2010. When we released the list, it immediately got picked up by a ton of blogs and websites, and we were excited to hear about all the experimental spa-going that took place as a result. Massages are great, but the spa has so much more to offer. Keep it going, you spa star!

2. I GET NAKED AT THE SPA (But not everyone does…)

In an industry relatively free from drama, we were surprised to have stirred up a bit of controversy with our release of I Get Naked At The Spa, the first ever spa music video. The goal was to not only entertain people while sharing important spa etiquette rules, but also to help introduce the spa lifestyle to the next generation of consumers. With over 8,500 views, we hope we’ve made a dent!

And now… without further ado… the #1 spa craze of 2010:

1. WHEN VAJAZZLING TOOK OVER THE WORLD

Back in February when I casually emailed Bryce Gruber to see if she’d like to get her vagina bedazzled for Spa Madness, I had no idea what I was in for. Although you may think the Vajazzling trend is passe, our blog traffic speaks wildly otherwise. To this day, people all over the world are still landing on Spa Week Daily from Google searches on “vajazzle” “vajazzling spas” and “crystals on your vagina” by the jillions. From information on “First Lady” Bryce Gruber to VAJAZZLING: The Feature Film which now has nearly 1.5 million YouTube views, we couldn’t be prouder to deliver all the hottest news about the sparkliest thing to happen since the age of disco.

Now… what do you think 2011 will bring? More below the belt beauty rituals? Bigger vacations to win? Another music video? We can’t wait to find out either!
