Perfect Scents: 6 Summertime Fragrances

Birds are chirping and butterflies are beginning to land on you again, and it’s all because you smell so good! Light, floral, citrus, fresh and beachy… these are the notes you want to hit with your fragrance for the warm months to come. Stash your spicy, woodsy, heavy perfumes in your beauty junk drawer (we’ve all got one), and get ready to smell as summery as you’ll look laying on the beach, with your banana daiquiri, right after that fresh minty aromatherapy massage.

We asked some of our favorite beauty, fashion (and passion) bloggers to share their favorite summer scents, and here’s what’s at the top of their lists for Summer 2011:

“As the weather has warmed up, I can’t stop wearing Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb. It’s so delicious and light!” –Kelly Framel, The Glamourai

“Every summer I love wearing this exotic beachy scent I picked up a couple years ago in St. Barths. It was created by Ana Taina, a local perfumer from St. Barths. I reminds me of happy summer memories and floating in the ocean under hot, twinkly sunlight. It’s so original, I can’t even place the notes. And after traveling in my beach makeup bag vacation after vacation, I can’t even read the label anymore!” –Polly Blitzer, Beauty Blitz

“My favorite perfume right now is Marc Jacobs Daisy. For some reason Marc Jacobs perfumes just really mesh well with my body chemistry – in the winter I wore Lola constantly, and now with Spring in the air I’m obsessed with Daisy. I’m getting constant compliments on how delicious I smell – from my husband, from my friends, from my doorman, from random cab drivers – everyone LOVES Daisy! It’s the perfect Springtime floral, if you ask me.” –Patrice Grell Yursik, Afrobella

“No matter how many new fragrances come across my desk, my favorite summer scent remains the same: Fresh Sugar Lemon. It’s citrusy without being too sweet, and more complex than you might think. Plus, it just smells like summer, not like perfume. I don’t want anything heavy in my beauty routine once the temperature rises.” –Elizabeth Dehn, Beauty Bets

“I love the original Michael Kors scent for summer because it’s fresh and light and clean without being citrusy.” Sarah Harrison, Your Tango

“I’m typically not a huge fragrance fan–I hate heavy scents and prefer light, subtle fragrances!–which is why I enjoy Mary Kay’s Forever Orchid Eau de Toilette. It has a fruity, floral scent to it that smells simply delicious. It’s one of the few scents I can actually stand wearing! I also enjoy anything that smells like vanilla or cookies because it’s a sweet smell that gets noticed!” –Chrissy Callahan, Beauty Stat

5 Min Q&A: Looking Hot, Staying Cool with Beauty Expert Polly Blitzer

Polly Blitzer
Summer is in full swing and the heat is on! Now that you have been beachcombing, barbequing and baring your skin, Beauty & Style expert and Dove® spokesperson Polly Blitzer is back to share some mid-season tips for looking hot while staying cool.

Question: As a beauty expert, what do you recommend that women should be wearing this summer to look and feel their best in the hot temperatures?
Answer: During the summer months, sleeveless tops and dresses are a girl’s best friend. Opt for one-shouldered tops with draping and ruching, flowing Grecian gowns or shoulder-baring cocktail frocks. My favorite thing about this trend is that you can show a little bit of skin without a plunging neckline.

Question: Sweating and skin irritation are inevitable in the hot summer months. What is your recommendation to keep women feeling dry and confident when wearing summer styles like sleeveless tops and dresses?
Answer: Look for an anti-perspirant/deodorant that delivers outstanding skincare benefits while providing 24-hour odor and wetness protection, like Dove Ultimate Beauty Care Deodorant in Light Radiance. It not only keeps you comfortable, but its tri-moisturizing system also soothes shaving irritation and helps replenish delicate underarm skin. Shaving reduces the top layer of underarm skin by 20% and can result in irritation and skin dryness, but Dove Ultimate provides the moisturization that is essential for healthy underarm skin. You will feel and look fabulously fresh while sporting your sleeveless frocks!

Question: What are some other hot style trends for the summer?
Answer: This season, accessories are sizzling! For example, mega necklaces have been a huge hit on runways everywhere. Try dressing up a basic scoop neck tee with a statement necklace. They completely revamp an otherwise simple wardrobe and add a burst of color to any ensemble.

Summer Primping You Shouldn’t Skip

It’s time to toss the boots and pull out the swim suits – but are your skin and hair ready for the sunshine? Our guest blogger today, Dove Deodorant spokesperson and Beauty and Style expert, Polly Blitzer dishes out four quick fixes to help you get a beach-ready look in no time.

Plump up your pout: Your lips have thinner layers of skin, verses the multiple, thicker layers on your face, making them very sensitive – especially under the heat of the sun. Instead of using an irritating plumping product, create the illusion of fuller lips by lining your cupid’s bow with a champagne-hue pencil, then dabbing shimmery gloss on the middle of each lip.

Save your skin: Did you know shaving reduces the top layer of underarm skin by 20 percent and can result in irritation and skin dryness? Try new Dove Ultimate Beauty Care Deodorant in Light Radiance; it’s perfect for the summer season, giving off a floral and woody scent containing apricot and citrus fragrance notes. Plus it includes a tri-moisturizing system that soothes shaving irritation and helps replenish delicate underarm skin.

Sculpt gorgeous arches: Do you dread painful plucking? The facial nerves contain a branch that extends to the eyebrows, making the area ultra-sensitive. Steam opens your follicles, helping hair slide out easily, so pluck brows right after a shower using an anti-fog mirror. Pull skin taut in the direction of hair growth to help ease removal.

Loosen up your locks: Windblown, knotted hair can be a bear to comb through. Tame your tangles by spritzing a detangling spray on damp hair. Then, holding the knotted section from the root to prevent tugging, gently work through the tangle in sections starting from the bottom.

Create lovely lashes: Most people have different shaped lids, making lash curlers an inexact fit for many women. After you apply mascara, lift and push lashes using the side of a credit card. It’s an easy on-the-go trick, too – I touch up my lash curl midday or on the way to an event where I’ll be photographed.
