Fashion Week Blogger Breakroom Spa Party Recap

Valentine’s Day may be over but the love is here to stay! Spa Week Daily co-hosted the LOOKBOOKS.com/Fashion Indie Blogger Breakroom on Monday, along with Kimmie Smith of Kitten Lounge, where over 200 bloggers came for a break in the Fashion Week circus of craziness to recharge their minds, bodies and phones.

This was no grab-your-giftbag-and-go affair… guests lingered for hours to get massaged, spray tanned, waxed, vajeweled, drunk…  there was SO much to do all day long! Let’s take a little tour of the highlights, shall we?

BEST DRESSED BLOGGER COMPETITION, sponsored by Spa Week Daily

Step… and repeat. Good looks, bloggers! The winner of this fierce competition gets a Spa Week Gift Card and a pair of Manolos, and YOU decide the winners. VOTE NOW! Who had the cutest outfit? (Feel free to vote for me even though I won’t accept the prize – yup thanks LOVE YA)

PAMPER PARTY! Services by Spa Merge and NK Salon

Massages, facials, manicures, eyebrow waxes… things bloggers crave, need and die for in between fashion shows. Although I did not experience Olga myself, talk on the town is that Spa Merge’s massage therapist was making miracles happen on the backs of the  bloggerati.

The COBRASNAKE Invasion

What’s a spa party without an out-of-whack LA photographer in a zebra Speedo getting spray tanned by B.Bronz and blinged out by Completely Bare, NYLON TV film crew in tow? You got nothin. Mark Hunter, AKA The Cobrasnake, gave us lots of love for the holiday. It’s Valentine’s Day, and he’s got a heart on.

THE BEST ACCESSORIES

Bloggers discovered two sumptuous accessory lines that I can’t wait to tell you about: 1, the brand new Koza is a London-based brand of travel bags, wallets, kimonos, kids clothes and accessories, inspired by The Mahabharata (a study of dharma, karma, and apparently a knack for it-bags). And then there was Louise Manna, a jewelry line that has mastered drapery and construction. Want. It. ALL.

POP goes the spa party

Every New York party goer knows it’s not a party without popchips, and Cocktail Colin‘s U’Luvka vodka cocktails are some of the city’s classiest creations.

Love to all our Valentines for partying with us! More pics on Facebook.

Spa Week X Fashion Week! LIVESTREAM in a Spa Body Suit

If Spa Week and Fashion Week had a baby, it would look a little something like this:

Here’s the story. Yesterday I had a Lipomassage at Smooth Synergy Cosmedical Spa in New York City, the first spa to offer the superior CelluM6 Integral Machine, a non-invasive piece of spa technology that smooths, tones, and tightens your body so you can look like Gwenyth, Wonderwoman, or you at 17 again.

What does one wear for such this procedure of rolling away your cellulite and shrinking your fat cells? Exhibit A, an opaque white glorified body stocking:

This is what the ensemble looks like in its usual setting, as the technician Tamara sculpts my buttox by rolling the wand in computer-guided motions.

Being that it’s Fashion Week, I tweeted what was on my mind as a lay in this awkward yet form-fitting piece of spattire: Think I can I throw a jacket over this and head to Lincoln Center?

Almost immediately I got a tweet backDo it.

If you know me at all, you know I take no challenge lightly, especially one that involves bringing a peculiar spa uniform into the most fashionable place on earth. PETA and the spa purists may throw red paint on me, but I’m willing to risk it.

Tonight, join me live as I make my rounds to the debut of White Trash Beautiful, a new fashion line by Nikki Lund and Bon Jovi at 6:30… followed by Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. show at Lincoln Center at 8. Now that I have the iPhone I will livestream as much of the action as possible! Tune in later right here as the girl in the giant pantyhose hits the scene.

Live TV : Ustream

PS… Look who randomly walked by during my little photo shoot… ma girls Ashley and Rie from LuxurySpot.com! They say coincidence, I say they were just stalking to see me in a body spandex.

and PPS… going to the bathroom is just as annoying as it looks.

Timo Weiland Fall 2011: Fashion Now, Nap Later

The great thing about Fashion Week is that you never know what exactly is on the minds of the designers. A collection can bring you out into the depths of outer space, usher you into a time period that only your Great Great Grands could recall, or as design duo Timo and Alan did, take you to Colonial India.

Unless you are keen on high school history and/or geography it would be nearly impossible to grasp the concept. Luckily, the Timo Weiland designs spoke for themselves. In a dark and shallow room (at 10:30 am on a Sunday), the models were planked on grey boxes surrounding soft grey pillows (which appeared to be an old colonial sandbag war reference?) wearing their individual vibrant, statement-making pieces.

Each look had its own suprise, whether it be the stark gradation in colors, furry wrist armor, zebra-like prints or unique hemlines. Even better than seeing the collection up close, we picked the brain of the man behind the mission who seemed to be in dire need of some rest and time at the spa.

I hope your nap was as enjoyable as your collection, Timo!

And spa deal, you say? During Spa Week April 11-17, treatments are only $50. You deserve one, big time!

High 70s Glamour at Rebecca Taylor Fall 2011

Bell Bottoms, Sequins, Florals… it was a cool Friday afternoon in Lincoln Center when Rebecca Taylor transported her audience to an era of carefree glamour for her Fall 2011 Runway Show. As I sat from my 4th row seat and watched the models put on a dazzling 1970s parade, I took a mental snap shot of each the prominent trends. Heavy emerald necklaces took center stage, along with floral and very sheer pants, and coats that made a statement in eye-catching colors or luxurious texture.

In keeping with the collection’s throwback feel, the designer recycled pieces from season’s past giving it an authentic patchwork aesthetic, which came together like a beautiful collage.

Bright flashes of gold and beading made the collection come to life. What was also great is that these pieces could be worn to work (the heavy structured jackets with fur trim) at work (the fun pants in unexpected colors) and after work (the attention stealing floaty dresses).

For beauty the Rebecca Taylor girl donned slicked back hair that was crimped at the ends, dark velvety red lips, and a heavy blush contour on an otherwise clean face. I was definitely into it from the fourth row.

Notable guest included actress Michelle Tractenberg, actress/model Garcelle Beauvais, model Maggie Rizer, and Mark Indelicato who were all swarmed by photographers. Here are a few of my favorite pieces although these pictures could never do the collection justice.

Fashion on Ice! Backstage Makeup w/ Napoleon Perdis at Elise Overland

In what was probably one of the most memorable show-stoppers of the Fall 2011 fashion season, Norwegian-born designer Elise Øverland poured her runway models over ice. She surrounded her still-standing (frozen?) girls with professional skaters to twirl around The Standard hotel ice rink in NYC’s meatpacking district, all decked in her leather-meets-feather Fall/Winter clothes, a colorful, wearable collection of it-girl must-haves. The fashionable crowd around the ice was huddled under heat lamps watching, sipping hot chocolate and Belvedere-spiked hot apple cider. Sn’ice!

And then Johnny Weir, two-time Olympic ice skating champion who’s now a front row staple, performed the finale. What a spectacle, the entire night.

Perhaps the simplest part of the extravaganza? The makeup. Here’s how the makeup went down backstage with famous Australian makeup artist Napole0n Perdis.

Take a look at his face sheet for the show. No frills, no drama, not even a speck of color. Au naturale to complement the bold clothing colors and bolder winter setting.

Because the makeup was so minimal, it was imperative that the models’ skin underneath looked flawless. Skyn Iceland, founded by Sarah Kugelman (center below) sponsored the backstage Stress Squad, and each model used their Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels to banish eye bags right before the show. (More on that in a separate post.)

Model Jenny (below) never wears makeup, so this wasn’t much of a dramatic change for her. Her secret? Moisturizer. That’s it. This may be her one and only beauty secret—she’s never even been to a spa.

Hey Napoleon, tell us real quickly about the makeup and inspiration!

Before the models went out, Napoleon’s crew did some last minute touch ups…

Here’s the designer fixing a leather hat onto one of the skaters.

At the end of it all, when Elise Overland and Johnny Weir took their final bows, the makeup had done exactly what it was intended to do: It let the clothes do skating.
