Everyday Beauty Blunders: I Spilled Nail Polish on My Rug

Got nail polish on your carpet? Don’t panic, here’s what one of our editors did to remedy this beauty blunder.

It’s happened to the best of us. You’re lounging on the couch, painting your nails while watching The Voice. You get so excited when a really awesome new contestant chooses your favorite team (Team Adam of course), that you jump up and BAM. OPI Eurso Euro is now splattered all over your tan rug. Oh. No. What’s a girl to do? You can only keep the remote over a stain for so long. Here are the steps I took to remedy this beauty blunder:

Attempt 1: I tried letting the spill dry a bit and then pulling the nail polish out of the rug. In doing this, I pulled out a little bit too much of the actual rug. This was not the answer.

Attempt 2: Nail polish remover seemed like the logical next step. I soaked a cotton pad with nail polish remover and just scrubbed the stain, as I would my fingernails.  To my dismay, not much happened.

Attempt 3: In a panic, I began trying to cut the stain out of the rug with scissors. Don’t try this one at home kids.

Attempt 4: Hairspray—ahh the savior of all things seemingly unsalvageable. Spray a paper towel (not the carpet directly!) with lots of hairspray and scrub. This definitely worked the best. Hairspray gets pen out of clothing and purses too—so it’s best to keep a cheap bottle on hand at all times (you know, so you don’t have to waste your expensive, favorite bottle).

Beauty Product Review: Kardashian Beauty Cabana Glow Collection

Add some sparkle to your fall beauty routine with Kardashian Beauty’s Cabana Glow Collection.

Kardashian Beauty collage

The Kardashian sisters are known around the world as style icons. Besides designing their own Kardashian Kollection clothing line, they have the newly branded Kardashian Beauty (formerly Khroma) makeup line. We tried their fall 2013 Kardashian Beauty Cabana Glow Collection and each product looks like it fell straight out of one of their makeup bags. They’re sure to give you a Kardashian glow no matter what the season.

First, we tried the Watercolors Oceanliner in Azure ($11.99) which is a gorgeous long-lasting teal color. It glides on like cream eyeliner with the ease of a pencil. When you mix it with a little charcoal eyeliner, you get a nice hint of color that’s not too over-the-top.

The Nudes Nail Lacquers ($5.99 each) come in six different pearlized shades that you can easily transition from summer to fall. Although they look like they might go on sheer, they’re nice and thick!

The best part of the collection was Radiant Shimmer Lip Crayon ($8.99). It gives a subtle, shimmery color that doesn’t fade. It has the moisturizing feel of a lip balm, yet it looks like a lipstick. You can even swipe it on your eyes or blend it on your cheeks!

All of these products are available now at Ulta, CVS and Sears.

First Look: Deborah Lippmann’s Jewel Heist Nail Polish Collection

Deborah Lippman’s limited edition fall 2013 Jewel Heist nail polishes are as flashy and fabulous as they look.

Here at Spa Week Daily we’re always looking for the latest in nail trends. We’re currently drooling over these Deborah Lippmann limited edition shimmer, glitter and crème polishes.  The color coordinating shades of green, gold and blue definitely have us craving sweater weather.

The three glitter polishes boast an out-of-this-world holographic shine with a multitude of colored sparkles that make your nails look like you’ve dipped them in jewels! You can layer them over one of the shimmers or wear them by themselves.

One of our favorites in this collection is the radiant Fake It Til You Make It, a shimmer with added multi-colored glitter for the ultimate gold mani. Another favorite is the Rolling in the Deep (love the Adele reference!) crème, which is not your average deep blue. It has tiny specks of silver glitter that make your nails resemble a starry midnight sky.

The crème and shimmer polishes are $17 and the glitter polishes are $19. They’re available now online and at Barney’s New York, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Make sure to get your hands on them before they’re gone!

Beauty Product Review: Cutex Advanced Revival One-Step Remover Pads

Need to change your nail polish in a flash? Grab a Cutex Advanced Revival One-Step Remover Pad and clean all 10 digits.

There are so many incredible nail polishes out right now; it seems you want to switch shades every day. If you’re into nail art (who isn’t?), those designs are wowy and you just gotta keep trying new ideas. Which leaves you this silly problem: What do you use to take off the polish and the art? Nail polish in a bottle can spill over everything—I’m not gonna discuss my disasters. You can get wisps of cotton stuck to your fingers. Perhaps your nail polish is really resistant to leaving you. What to do?

I recently tried and fell in love with Cutex Advanced Revival One-Step Remover Pads (MSRP $3.99, stores nationwide).  One pad will remove the toughest nail polish off all ten of your digits. Even the most super sparkly, glittery nail polish comes off easily.

Cutex Advanced Revival One-Step Remover pads ad made with botanical oils so they actually feed your nails when they’re removing nail polish. No longer will your nails feel like they’ve been completely striped and desert dry. They look as healthy, maybe even healthier after swiping them on your fingers.

No more mess removing polish. No more fingers dusted with cotton junk. Just clean, healthy nails waiting to be painted and adorned.

And yes, the product smells great!
