Bring The Healing Hot Springs of Tuscany To Your Home

Guest Contributor: Healing Lifestyles & Spa

Live mindfully, eat joyfully, and travel consciously is the motto of our newest weekly columnist, Healing Lifestyles & Spa. Each day the publication dedicated to showcasing the best in eco-living and delivering tips on travel, food, beauty and nutrition will bring forth new topics and ideas expanding on the spa lifestyle. This week as I document my travels in Tuscany, home of the famous Saturnia hot springs, our healthy lifestyle enthusiasts have found ways to bring the hot springs to your home.

Taking off on a ten-day getaway to an exotic hot springs retreat where mineral-filled water saturates your skin, healing your body and mind is undoubtedly ideal. But it isn’t always realistic. Sure, maybe you can escape for a three-day excursion next weekend. But what can you do now? Great news! You don’t have to actually go to a hot springs to benefit from a hot springs’ offerings.

Time may be the most important ingredient, but there are other elements that help too. Create a calming environment that is as simple as a tub, a candle and some sea salt; or as complex as an altar, fresh flowers, specialty mineral salts, and classical music. You can make your own bath salts by mixing Epsom salts with a few drops of pure essential oil. Remember that different oils impart a different energy and experience from relaxing to invigorating. For an at-home hot spring experience try a few of our favorites.

BATH PRODUCTS

  • Auromere HERBOMINERAL Mud is an Ayurvedic Mud made from four types of clay (Fuller’s Earth, Red Clay, Black Clay and Yellow Clay) found in the beds of highland rivers and lakes in India. The formula is rich in skin-nourishing minerals including calcium, cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, and selenium. Soaking in this mud is a simple way to feel like you have slipped into a natural hot spring.
  • Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser combines essential oils and herbs to cleanse, plus a pure muslin cloths to further exfoliate and slough off dead skin cells. It’s like a mini spa treatment in a pouch.
  • Philosophy Empowermint Hot Salt Scrub is an energizing salt scrub infused with plankton and algae to exfoliate and polish rough, dry skin.
  • Korres Green Silt & Corallina Oligoelements Hair & Scalp Scrub enhances hair’s natural health and shine with minerals and salts found in the sea.
  • You can’t go wrong or get more basic than Evian Mineral Water Spray. Just a spritz of the cool mist helps rehydrate, revive, and replenish the skin.

TECHNO

Not the bath type? You can soak up similar bath time benefits while standing in the shower. The Wellness Shower combines a natural purification process with high-technology to remove harmful contaminants from your tap water (like chlorine and heavy metals) while enhancing the water with rare minerals that hydrate the skin and hair. The water is magnetically treated then sifted through stones that help the skin resist bad bacteria and fungus while maintaining its natural nutritive proteins. Skin and hair are enlivened!

MINERALS TO GO

You can begin to remineralize your skin with your makeup! Mineral makeup allows you to powder, blush, highlight, conceal, and color your facial features while simultaneously healing your skin with natural minerals. Jane Iredale is a mineral makeup line that combines gorgeous hues with UV protection, natural high-pigment minerals and the power of antioxidants.

Little Luxury Gift Guide: The Ultimate Gloss

Little luxury gift guide chapter 1

Welcome to Chapter One of the Little Luxury Gift Guide 2009.

Little luxuries are all around us if you know where to look – be it a bright red lipstick that makes you feel like a movie star on a Monday morning, a mini-facial that makes you glow inside and out, or a book that takes you to the other side of the world. These tiny everyday gems are anxiously waiting to be discovered by you and wrapped with a bow, and each chapter of the LLGG seeks to deliver a new morsel of inspiration to you and your holiday season. Fancy shmancy is out; it’s those legendary “small packages” that hold the key to a perfect season of giving.

Finding the ultimate gift is a daunting task, but giving the ultimate gloss can be the ultimate gift indeed. There are millions of glosses out there with a story to tell, but I’ve narrowed it down to six of my all-time favorites. No guessing – any one of these glosses would make an incredible stocking stuffer or a standalone sealed-with-a-kiss holiday present.

1. Raspberry Sorbet Lip Shine by Philosophy, available at Philosophy.com – $12

Lick-your-lips delicious and kiss-your-lips pretty. Philosophy has mastered the art of the perfect gift, and this sweet sorbet gloss is just one shining beacon of its fantastic holiday collection.

2. Melon PureGloss by jane iredale, the skin care makeup, available at dermstore.com - $19

It’s smooth and bright with a tingle that’ll keep your breath fresh to boot. Provides a shimmer that is equal parts healthy, replenishing and glamorous.

3. African Red Tea Exfoliating Lip Salvation by Ole Henriksen, available at sephora.com- $12

Infused with antioxidant-rich African red tea, this is a gift of health, powerful protection from the environment and super-soft lips.

4. Lipsicle Lip Gloss in Erte by Paula Dorf, available at yesstyle.com – $20

Opaque, bold and lasts for hours. Has a liquid A favorite of Warren-Tricomi hair and makeup artist Jillian Halouska.

5. Lip Gloss Compact by Bobbi Brown, available at Saks.com – $20

The whole line of colors is good for a classic, reliable gloss with hint of vanilla. They have soothing botanical extracts including Avocado, Jojoba and Chamomile Oils to keep lips supple.

6. Huge Lips, Skinny Hips in Kittypole Dancer by Purple Lab, available at ronrobinson.com - $20

“Double Duty Beauty” for the woman who wants it all! It’s got lip plumper and hoodia – yup, the stuff that makes you lose weight. Applying it won’t make you drop a dress size, but it might make you think twice before having that second slice o pie. Each color has a unique personality, and every single one is absurdly addictive. My favorite is Red Sole, named after Christian Louboutin shoes, but they’re all delish. MWAH!

spa week gift card
And the the go-to gift of the season for any lady with a pucker worth its pretty– the gift of wellness: A $100 SPA WEEK Gift Card, on sale for $80. They’re redeemable all year ’round at spas all over North America. And you don’t even have to choose a shade.
