LIVE SPA TV: New Treatment Trend – Hot and Cold Stone Massage

Spa Week®’s favorite sweetheart treatment has always been the Hot Stone Massage, but the newest twist for Fall is cooler than past seasons. Instead of using all hot stones, a Hot and Cold Stone Massage treatment includes the application of cold stones as well, adding multi-dimensional stimulation. Alternating the hot and cool stones helps every cell in the body to receive more oxygen and nutrients and encourages a more effective removal of toxins. It’s great for releasing deep, chronically held tension in the body, and is known to refresh and stimulate the mind.

When it comes to Hot and Cold Stone Massages, each spa has its own techniques, but essentially you will be introduced to the type of stone (basalt, Marble, gemstone) and the style of stone work (La Stone, Japanese, or a personal style). The therapist will glide the stones across your body, place them on your back, slide them on your face, place them in between your toes, depending on the spa and technique.

Now, watch this treatment in action at The Mezzanine Spa in New York City! Recorded Live 08.04.10.

5 Steps to Rocking Your Resolution

new years resolution

Asking “What’s your New Year’s resolution?” is so 2009. We’re asking you a more relevant and important question: How will you keep it? Let this not be a resolution that goes in one year and out the other. Here are 5 steps to help you make it “official” and focus on reaching your goal in 2010.

1. Using your very own handwriting, write your New Year’s resolution on piece of paper. Sign it. On another piece of paper, break it down. Write down 3 or more specific, attainable goal-oriented actions you are going to take or benchmarks you need to reach in order to fulfill your resolution.

2. Buy a picture frame you love. Don’t use one you already have – you’re coming into a new frame of mind… you’re going to need a new frame. Take the time to choose your frame and invest in it—even if it’s just a few dollars. This is part of the experience and will help signify your commitment.

3. Place your resolution in the frame. Slip the other piece of paper with the breakdown behind it. (Make two copies so you remember what you wrote. Keep a third copy in your head.) Set the frame someplace you’ll look every day: on your desk, in the kitchen, nestled between the pictures of you and your honey next to your bed.

If you’re the crafty type, by all means get crafty. Use scrapbooking materials, magazine cutouts—make this frame your own. If you feel uncomfortable framing your written resolution where others will see, design it symbolically.

4. Make the actions happen! Reach benchmarks and goals within your resolution that’ll give you a well-deserved sense of accomplishment at different points in the year.

Increase effectivity: Bribe yourself with spa treatments as rewards! “When I lose my first 10 pounds/complete a quarter marathon/don’t purchase shoes for an entire month… I’m getting a seaweed body wrap.”

5. When (not ifWHEN) all actions have been completed and benchmarks reached – you’ve done it! Now, fill that frame with a photograph that signifies your wonderful 2010 achievement.

Bonus: Treat yourself to hot stone massage… because now you rock more.

Who wants to give it a try?
