Tricking, Treating… Whatever.

peas of mind peas of mind

Trick or treat? Apparently you can do both.

Peas Of Mind disguises vegetables as French Fries, and I think it’s brilliant! Now if only candy companies made an effort to promote peace – or peas – of mind this Halloween, November would be a much easier month for moms, dentists and anyone watching their diet in any way.

I liked this concept so much that I decided to test out a version of it on my coworkers today. If you disguise celery as a Tootsie Roll, does everybody win?

Project Tootcelery. (Like my cutting board? Got it at the MoMa.)

Kaitlin said, “I’m so happy it was celery… I wasn’t even in the mood for chocolate. A healthy, crunchy little surprise!”

Moms, how bout it?

Happy Halloween.

Fill ‘er Up

I cringe when I think about the days of Lunchables: processed meat, coupled with unhappy cheese and already-broken crackers. Finding healthy alternatives to on-the-go snacks is difficult, even now. Labels are deceiving, and packages are littered with confusing catch-phrases, but here’s a simple, clean, and honest brand to look for next time you’re in the grocery aisle—Lifestyle Foods.

Lifestyle Foods, Inc. provides a variety of snack options to satisfy any sort of craving. My favorite: The Manhattan snack, combines fresh cut carrots, all-natural whole wheat organic pita, cubed cheddar cheese and roasted red pepper hummus. Runner-up favorite: The Hollywood snack (I suppose since I fled LA for NYC this may have something to do with it coming in 2nd place) comes with honey wheat pretzels, cubed white cheddar cheese, red seedless grapes and crisps apples. I dove into both of these packs and was pleasantly surprised to find fresh, mouth-watering fruit. While these two must be refrigerated, it’s the best thing to store at home or at work, not to mention, a great tool for my ongoing fight against M&M’s.

If you’re looking for more oomph, they have three other low calorie snack packs, plus a variety of salads to choose from. While I haven’t tried the other ones, I imagine they are equally as fresh and filling.

Eat Healthy, America

I can wax lyrical about the importance of relaxation and top of the line products as keys to a healthy lifestyle until my face goes blue. The bottom line is if you’re not putting the right things into your body, it’s not going to show on the outside.

Just ask our First Lady, Michelle Obama. Her diet mantra is simple: eat fresh food and everything in moderation. She is committed to not only feeding her hubby and daughters, Sasha and Malia, nutritious eats but the rest of us as well. She recently said to her White House employees about a local soup kitchen,

“Collect some fruits and vegetables; bring by some good healthy food. We can provide this kind of healthy food for communities across the country, and we can do it by each of us lending a hand.”

Mrs. Obama recently spoke at the Department of Agriculture about the importance of fruits and vegetables, not just for the wealthy but for all communities. Seeing as how we’re in the midst of an obesity epidemic, this message seems just as crucial as any. Now that’s change we can believe in.
