Fashion Under $50: Polka Dot Accents

While most of us enjoyed the holiday stateside with family and friends, Beyonce and Jay-Z skirted away for an elaborate Parisian Vacay. Oh, to be young, successful and loaded. She did so at a price as cameras closely trailed her every move even capturing her in the above color-blocked green and red Marc Jacobs frock during one of her daytime outings. As much as we love Beyonce, something about this look just doesn’t work. The color scheme screams Christmas time and the fabric looks way too heavy for vacation. Using a brighter color scheme could have turned this look from blah to magical.

Looking for the good in this situation, we DO appreciate her effort in choosing a rather off kilter print. Take a break from the head to toe tribal tribal or floral prints by incorporating an unexpected splash of polka dot with these cool finds under $50.

ASOS Spot Print Jersey Mini Skirt, $26.90

Delias Polka Dot Dress, $44.50

Fashion Under $50: Spring Trench Coats

We envy the folks who got to frolic in the sun at the Coachella Festival last weekend. Sadly, since the beginning of April we New Yorkers have been living the theme, “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” Okay, maybe we got in a few bright days over 60, but for the most part our fashion outlook has been predicting heavy overcast. Rather than wait until the sun comes out to play, you can still be stylish as ever wearing one of the chicest trends of the season: A Signature Trench.

A few weeks ago, Miss Bridget Jones was spotted in a fabulous candy apple red Tommy Hilfiger trench. In between the cat-eye sunnies and tan peep-toe pumps, she strutted like a human billboard for a perfect spring wardrobe. We took a few hints from Renee to create a signature trench look for spring.

  • Color - Stay in line with the current color trends . It’s okay to want to be unique and do your own thing, but a dark grey or black trench brings us horrifying flashbacks of winter. Keep it light in pastels shades like mint greens and soft pinks, or punchy in bright red or cobalt blue.
  • Shape - A spring trench doesn’t work if it doesn’t give you a sexy shape. Tie the belt snuggly on the side and let straps hang loose.
  • The Details – Pay special attention to the buttons and the hardware on the trench. It should be brighter or the same colors as the fabric and lighter than what we would wear during the fall.
  • The Cut – It is spring of course, so you can shed a few layers. Cropped sleeves and interesting lapels are fun additions to your look.

Here are some of the spring trenches we’re eyeing and of course they are all under $50.

Sonoma Life + Style Twill Trench Coat, $26.00

Jou Jou Long Sleeve Light Belted Trench, $47.99

Forever 21 Short Double Breasted Trench, 32.80

Out of the obvious color trends we saw on the runways during New York Fashion Week from Gwen Stefani’s slinky black L.A.M.B. numbers, to the decadent silver sequins spotted at Naeem Khan, and even the fun blues and pinks at Rebecca Taylor, there was still one underlining trend that we kept seeing over and over. When it came to exuding a lux style it seems most of the designers shared the same idea– it’s time to go green!

We were sold with the money green looks which came in many varied forms including your classic day dresses to funky furs. Still, we’ve got a long way to go before we can slip into the sexy green Malandrino pictured above.  No worries, feast your eyes on these flirty green dress options, all less money than a Spa Week treatment.
