Miss Piggy is Breaking Down Stereotypes… About Pigs

Pigs may be known for their curly tails and leisurely rolling in the mud all day, but look out Gisele – there’s a pig that’s right on your tail! That’s right, the world’s sweetheart swine Miss Piggy only wears designers on her hooves, and is quite the  businesswoman.  Designers such as Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, and Brian Atwood all custom-designed outfits for her InStyle photoshoot for their November issue.  She’s keeping busy with a makeup line and a movie all coming out in November. In the upcoming Muppets movie, set to be released November 23rd,  she plays a French Vogue editor in chief – so clearly this piglet loves fashion… and has a knack for makeup.

The saying goes…”You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig” but what about eyeliner? Miss Piggy has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to create her very own line, which will be available in stores and online November 14th. All the items are under 20 bucks. See the sneak peek below:

The collection features:

  • Miss Piggy for MAC Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack for $17.50
  • Miss Piggy for MAC Eye Shadow which is a frosty pink color for $15
  • Miss Piggy for MAC Lash, a set of false lashes for $15

But wait – there’s more! OPI is releasing 12 limited edition nail colors inspired by your favorite puppets in early November. The collection is mostly glittery goodness including “Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It” pictured above.

Bergdorf’s Beautiful Non-Models: The Faces of 5F

New York’s Fifth Avenue windows are something of a sartorial climax. Each season, or in some cases each week, the sweeping windows along that famous avenue transform to represent the best new designers, the hottest trends, and, oftentimes, turn fashion into fantasy.

Well, that fantasy just got REALLY real for the eight new “Faces of 5F” – the young women who recently won Bergdorf Goodman’s non-model model competition. After a few rounds of competitive photo shoots, these gorgeous women were selected as the winning faces of 5F Fall ad campaign, will be featured in the pages of Lucky Magazine’s October issue, and are currently posing in a life-size photo behind what are arguably the most prestigious pieces of glass on all of Fifth Avenue.

Congratulations to the (oh so naturally!) beautiful winners, including my friend Natasha – how cute is she!? In the spirit of BG’s 5 Questions column that they do with their designers, I had 5 questions for Natasha, who runs a PR firm in NYC, about her journey becoming one of the faces of the iconic contemporary fifth floor shopping mecca.

Spa Week Daily: What was it like getting photographed for Lucky Magazine?
Natasha:
SURREAL. I am so used to be the one organizing a photo shoot, not being the one who is being dolled up!

Did you get to pick your outfit for the shoot? Who styled you?
I did not get to pick it. I ended up in a Rachel Zoe piece which I LOVED because it was the most girlie one. Plus the dress had subtle sparkles in it. I actually can’t remember who styled me, but she was SO fabulous.

Are you randomly hearing from people you haven’t heard from in years?
Absolutely! I didn’t realize I had so many “friends”

Hey PR girl, was one of the reasons you did this for PR for your PR company… and is it working?
I actually did it to try to have one more out of the box thing I have done in my life. I applied and never thought I would get this far and then BAM, there I am in the window at Bergdorfs!

And because we’re obviously obsessed with spa around here… what’s your all time favorite spa and spa treatment?
I really love Bliss Spa. They are really convenient for me, which is key. You can never go wrong with a swedish massage. I could go for one right now with all the stress of fashion week!

Meet all the lovely ladies below!

NATASHA
New York, NY
An enthusiastic fashion publicist, Natasha promotes start-up designers with her pr-savvy and genuine gusto.  Although she’s already completed four marathons (including Boston and New York), she hopes to soon become a triathlete.  When she’s not training, Natasha enjoys ballet classes… and playing a mean air guitar duet with her neighbor across the way.  Natasha’s New York City Secret? A Cambodian/Filipino dive in the Flatiron District (we’ll share it just as soon as we can find it).  You can follow Natasha’s tweets at @nhmediaprgirl.

MUTHONI
Doylestown, PA
In addition to hosting a radio show in Kenya, Muthoni runs a fashion blog called Fashion Beauty Insight where she shares her enthusiasm for western fashion with her friends in her native Nairobi.  She also shares organic skincare recipes on her YouTube Channel.  You can follow Muthoni on twitter at @gabrillemwangi.JUSTINE
New York, NY
Little sister to four older brothers, Justine cooly blends her southern Mississippi charm with tomboyish flair.  An account executive for Rag & Bone, Justine enjoys walking the Highline home from work and catching an aperitif in the West Village.  Her New York City Secret? one day she’d like to live in Brooklyn.

SHELLY
Overland Park, KS
Proud mother to aspiring jewelry designer and Parsons student, Brady, Shelly first shocked us in a sleek leather shift accessorized by her son’s designs; she later dazzled us when trying on one of the glittering samples for next week’s photo-shoot.  Shelly first hit our radar when Brady began posting about her on our Facebook Wall; of course it was Brady who encouraged her to enter… which didn’t surprise Shelly too much.  Style is in their family history: Brady’s grandmother was a model for Coco Chanel.AMY
Charleston, SC
Amy first shaved half of her head three years ago after being inspired by model and style icon, Alice Dellal.  Currently living in Charleston, she spends her days as a sales rep for Juicy Couture and free time working with the Art Institute of Charleston.  She also has a penchant for DIY: her necklace was made from a findings from an army surplus store. You can follow Amy on tumblr at The Style Blazer.

MEGHAN
New York, NY
Fresh off her flight from Paris (she rescheduled her ticket to make yesterday’s casting), Meghan left her job as a tech analyst to consult with start-ups; one day she hopes to help women build businesses in developing countries.  When not browsing downtown shops for vintage handbags, you may spot her in one of her sweet-serving New York City Secrets: Baby Cakes, Sugar Sweet Sunshine, Dylan’s Candy Bar, David Burke Townhouse or the Vosges Barcelona Bar.

SARAH
Philadelphia, PA
Standing at just 5’3″, Sarah is our tiniest Face of 5F… which only confirms that height has nothing to do with style.  Already she’s a contributor to the popular fashion site, Style Salt, while maintaining her own Philadelphia street style blog, Style Nymph.BRIGID
Westchester, NY
The youngest of seven, Brigid shocked the judges when sharing that she once was a competitive Irish dancer.  When not studying textile development at FIT, she enjoys kayaking down the Hudson with her dad and baking.  Her New York City Secret?  Taxicab conversations.  You can follow Brigid on twitter at @bridiechillemi.

Spa Meets Fashion: WanderLust Photo Shoot

Fashion is an extension of self, but what of that “self” underneath? Your skin, your muscles, your energy, your balance and your body as a whole? Spa and fashion interplay every single day: You style yourself with the handbags, jeans, anti-aging serums and body scents that give you confidence. Your passion for great skin and style alike are reflected in your everyday choices and appearance. Your deep yearning for the latest It-Shoe is not too dissimilar from your desire for an indulgent deep tissue massage at the hottest new spa in town. And may I ask… where did you get that goddamn gorgeous glow?

The idea came to me about a month ago to partner with fashion bloggers for spa fashion shoots; it spawned from my daily Google-image searching  for “facial” and “hot stone massage”—was there no creativity out there? Does everything spa have to be so similar? And suddenly I felt all fingers pointing back at me; if I’m indeed the editor of the biggest spa blog (in the world?), not to mention the founder and once-editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, is it not my job to change the status quo? Mission: realized.

I tapped the fashionable duo Abigail Breslin and Emily Bache of LovelyWanderlust.com to kick things off with a spicy spa photo story—these girls are a total trip. They blog together, live together in a one-bedroom (with their photographer/graphic designer/sidekick Scott), they style and model in campaigns for clients together, and they’ve been sharing a closet since eighth grade when they lived across the street from each other.

I chose the decadently decorated Spa Martier (of 24K Gold Facial fame) as the Wanderlust photo shoot location. The spa not only has a full salon for hair, nails and makeup, it also just so happens to be conveniently tucked underneath Caffé Martier for your spa day appetite, and Martier Boutique, a high-end fashion destination with all the gorgeous clothing, accessories and jewelery a stylist could ever want.

10 Looks We Love From The 2011 Met Gala

Daphne Guiness in Alexander McQueen

Yesterday, New York’s most highly anticipated fashion event of the year (aside from those two weeks in February and September) occurred at the Metropolitan Museum of Art honoring deceased fashion legend Alexander McQueen. We anxiously waited for the twitpics to roll in of our favorite celebs playing high fashion ingénues for the night. With all of the hoopla that surrounded this event, we’d have to say the fashion was less than what we expected. Like for starters, why was there so much non-McQueen? The night of tribute was saved by Daphne Guinness, muse of McQueen, who changed into her feathered McQueen gown for the world to see in the windows of Barney’s literally for the world to see. Fashionably, the night was a big let down with most starlets opting for pieces outside of the realm of McQueen, but there were some highlights.

Daphne Guinness emerged in an amazingly bold, head-to-toe feathered McQueen. We wouldn’t wear this ourselves but kudos to Daphne for honoring the man of the night.

This wouldn’t be a best dressed list sans a Diane Kruger appearance or that of her legs of steel. The beauty opted for a hot Jason Wu that screamed seductive siren. We like this look a lot.

Emma Stone was absolutely gorgeous in her black and white floral Lanvin. She worked a fun neon pink lip while exuding so much class and elegance.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who was a close friend of McQueen honored him by donning a sparkly number. The look leaned more on the safe side, but we’ll take it.

Blake Lively posed with Karl Lagerfeld in Chanel Couture.

Beyonce showed up on the arm of hubby Jay-Z in a skin tight Pucci. Word spread around Twitter that she was booed by photographers because she couldn’t even move in the dress.

Ginnifer Goodwin stole the show in an emerald green cut-out Topshop Unique! We’ll forever question why a Topshop dress owned a couture red carpet.

Gisele Bündchen was gorgeous, but what else is new.

Christina Ricci brought the drama in a webby Zac Posen which fits her off-beat style.

Another name known for beating to her own drum was Rihanna who wore a lace one-sleeve Stella McCartney and a huge braid.

Fashion Under $50: Polka Dot Accents

While most of us enjoyed the holiday stateside with family and friends, Beyonce and Jay-Z skirted away for an elaborate Parisian Vacay. Oh, to be young, successful and loaded. She did so at a price as cameras closely trailed her every move even capturing her in the above color-blocked green and red Marc Jacobs frock during one of her daytime outings. As much as we love Beyonce, something about this look just doesn’t work. The color scheme screams Christmas time and the fabric looks way too heavy for vacation. Using a brighter color scheme could have turned this look from blah to magical.

Looking for the good in this situation, we DO appreciate her effort in choosing a rather off kilter print. Take a break from the head to toe tribal tribal or floral prints by incorporating an unexpected splash of polka dot with these cool finds under $50.

ASOS Spot Print Jersey Mini Skirt, $26.90
