NYC’s newest facial treatment delivers the maximum wow effect, complete with infrared energy lift and thorough extractions.
Since 1976, Ling Chan, founder of Ling Skin Care, has developed groundbreaking skincare products and treatments. I use the term groundbreaking with full confidence, because when you’ve established your own product line that’s utilized worldwide at spas and wellness locations for over 35 years with a celebrity following to boot, she’s earned it.
Maintaining a holistic philosophy merged with traditional Asian beauty principles and innovative ingredients, Ling’s products are gentle, yet still manage to deliver impeccable results for every type of client. Regular participants in the biannual Spa Week Events, Ling’s Union Square and Upper West Side spa locations here in New York City offered Spa Week goers something different for the Fall 2013 Event last month: the brand new Energy Lift Facial Treatment. (45 Minutes, $185) In our opinion, there’s no better time to debut a new service! I had the pleasure of experiencing Ling’s latest innovation first-hand (or shall I say first-face?) at the Union Square location.
In a nutshell, this facial aims to contour, tone and rejuvenate the skin. While all of that sounds fine and dandy, I was also concerned with getting a thorough deep cleansing as it was much needed, and I was not disappointed. My esthetician, Mary, began with some basic cleansing and steaming which was followed by an amazingly detailed facial massage. It’s not just our shoulders and backs that need to decompress. Facial massages help increase blood flow and oxygen which can do wonders for dull, tired skin.
Once I was in a complete state of relaxation, it was time for an exfoliating papaya peel to cleanse my skin of impurities. The light stinging sensation was not overly uncomfortable, and was a reminder of how badly my skin needed the kind of attention it was receiving. Next was the moment I’d been waiting for: extractions! Most spa patrons dread this part of a facial, but not me. Pop, pick, scrape and extract away! After all, isn’t the point of a facial to get squeaky clean pores? I think so. Mary held absolutely no prisoners and was incredibly meticulous when it came to making sure that no blackhead or blemish was left behind. (Sorry if that was TMI!)
The grand finale to this amazing treatment is what it’s most known for: the energy lift. If you’re a fan of infrared rays, you’re definitely in for a real treat. Never experienced it? There’s nothing to be afraid of. The thermal effect produced by infrared radiation basically feels like a heated wand being massaged over the face (with a serum) for around five to ten minutes. It was a soothing feeling that once again had me drifting off into la la land.
Although I felt sad that this decadent treatment was coming to end, I couldn’t wait to see the reveal of my new complexion. I’m 29, and while I’m not exactly filing for social security anytime soon, I’m certainly no spring chicken either. I really did feel as though this facial turned back the clock in many ways. Not only was my skin visibly cleaner, but two weeks later, my skin is still soft as ever, firmer and just all-around healthier. And as if this all isn’t good enough news, Ling has also added an Energy Lift Body Treatment to their spa menu that sounds absolutely divine. Think acupressure, lymphatic drainage, the works.
