Fashion Week Blogger Breakroom Spa Party Recap

Valentine’s Day may be over but the love is here to stay! Spa Week Daily co-hosted the LOOKBOOKS.com/Fashion Indie Blogger Breakroom on Monday, along with Kimmie Smith of Kitten Lounge, where over 200 bloggers came for a break in the Fashion Week circus of craziness to recharge their minds, bodies and phones.

This was no grab-your-giftbag-and-go affair… guests lingered for hours to get massaged, spray tanned, waxed, vajeweled, drunk…  there was SO much to do all day long! Let’s take a little tour of the highlights, shall we?

BEST DRESSED BLOGGER COMPETITION, sponsored by Spa Week Daily

Step… and repeat. Good looks, bloggers! The winner of this fierce competition gets a Spa Week Gift Card and a pair of Manolos, and YOU decide the winners. VOTE NOW! Who had the cutest outfit? (Feel free to vote for me even though I won’t accept the prize – yup thanks LOVE YA)

PAMPER PARTY! Services by Spa Merge and NK Salon

Massages, facials, manicures, eyebrow waxes… things bloggers crave, need and die for in between fashion shows. Although I did not experience Olga myself, talk on the town is that Spa Merge’s massage therapist was making miracles happen on the backs of the  bloggerati.

The COBRASNAKE Invasion

What’s a spa party without an out-of-whack LA photographer in a zebra Speedo getting spray tanned by B.Bronz and blinged out by Completely Bare, NYLON TV film crew in tow? You got nothin. Mark Hunter, AKA The Cobrasnake, gave us lots of love for the holiday. It’s Valentine’s Day, and he’s got a heart on.

THE BEST ACCESSORIES

Bloggers discovered two sumptuous accessory lines that I can’t wait to tell you about: 1, the brand new Koza is a London-based brand of travel bags, wallets, kimonos, kids clothes and accessories, inspired by The Mahabharata (a study of dharma, karma, and apparently a knack for it-bags). And then there was Louise Manna, a jewelry line that has mastered drapery and construction. Want. It. ALL.

POP goes the spa party

Every New York party goer knows it’s not a party without popchips, and Cocktail Colin‘s U’Luvka vodka cocktails are some of the city’s classiest creations.

Love to all our Valentines for partying with us! More pics on Facebook.

LoveLife 2011: Party Recap

Party hosts sharing tips on love, life, and loving life

Loving life! On Tuesday night, Spa Week Daily co-hosted LoveLife 2011, a celebration of love and life at Shibumi Spa in NYC. With red rose petals and white tea candles scattered around the bridge and water in the middle of Shibumi, my co-hosts Andrea Syrtash (dating and relationship expert and author) and Soli Davis (God-sent owner of Shibumi spa) and I (dressed a sort of like a cupcake) welcomed an intimate group of media to our little 2-hour haven of happiness.

Guests indulged in massages and facials with luxurious Bionova products, wines by HobNob (a modern, refreshingly uncomplicated twist on wine), mini Beet Velvet Cupcakes by Sugar Flower Cake Shop and addictive Alley-O organic, homemade Cookies. With live music by Nicholas Megalis and some really great people in attendance, the spa was buzzing with ooohs, aaahs, and simply amazing energy.

First of all, I have to hand it to Andrea—before the event started, her iPhone went missing. Did she panic and let it ruin the night? Nope–she resolved to stay calm and positive, and karma got her back by delivering it to her under a piece of obscure furniture afterwards. What a relief, and good lesson learned.

My other co-host Soli Davis, the owner of Shibumi Spa, usually for some reason materializes in my head as an angel in white chiffon. And last night, it happened for real. In purple velour. Her Shibumi staff pampered each and every guest with gusto and grace, leaving shoulders at ease and faces aglow.

Bionova, one of the top lines in professional spa skin care, so generously donated their products to the gift bags, customized by skin type – we asked if everyone was dry or oily in advance! There were also Sexual Perfumes (#sexy), a copy of Andrea’s book He’s Just Not Your Type (And That’s A Good Thing), Sleep Scentsations scented pillow liners, a gift card to Shibumi Spa and a 1-month gym membership to the Eastern Athletic Club, which in total ended up being worth about $700 each!

A sincere thank you to everyone who came! To name a few:  Katy Lindenmuth and Anne Davies from Cosmopolitan, Courtney Rubin from Self, Elisa Benson from Seventeen, Emmy Parsons and Kristin Boehm from People, Jonathan Siskin from Organic Spa Magazine, Ellianna Placas from Essence, Virginia VanZanten from W, Dawn Perry from Real Simple, Patty Hughes from SOHO Design Magazine, Andrea Wytish from Parade, Bryce Gruber and Ashley Brady from The Luxury Spot, Kimmie Smith from KittenLounge, Sarah Conley from StyleIt Online, Matt Wilkerson from AHAlife, Andrea Uku from Beauty High, Wendy Lam from Nitro:licious, Annika Harris from The Frisky, Valerie Berrios of Daily Glow, Celebrity Stylist Lauren Rae Levy and Kelly Tomashoff of Bravo’s NYC Prep.

Check out some more photos below and on our Facebook page, taken by Mitch Zachary.

A colorful and tasty array of wines by HobNob Wines.

Usually it’s only the peaceful waterfall you can hear at Shibumi. Tonight, Singer/Songwriter Nicholas Megalis lit up the spa with his original love songs.

Have you ever had BEET Velvet cupcakes? No? You are missing out. Many thanks for the mini treats from Sugar Flower Bake Shop.

On the right is one of the chefs of Alley-O organic, homemade cookies, and on the left is a happy winner of a basket from Alley-O.

5 Almost Free Thanksgiving Things To Do This Weekend

Guest Contributor: Miss Cozy

Holiday weight gain seems guaranteed, but the fact is – the holiday season doesn’t mean your scale will become your worst enemy! Some easy ways to prevent holiday weight gain include:

• Practicing portion control – All things in moderation. Keep your serving sizes in check at all times and you really can enjoy your favorite holiday treats without gaining weight

• Stay active during the holidays and those extra pounds won’t creep up on you. A 30-minute brisk walk most days of the week can do wonders for maintaining your waistline. Get outside if the weather permits or hit the mall before it opens for a workout while window-shopping

• Try some new ways to make your holiday meals healthier. Small changes can add up to a big difference. This can be as simple as serving steamed vegetables instead of casseroles or removing skin from the turkey. Just choosing fruit instead of a desserts can save hundreds of calories

• Food cravings are a part of life, but they can be especially daunting during the holidays. You seem to smell or see tempting food nearly everywhere you go. If you can’t avoid food cravings, the best way to fight back is to be prepared with a plan for an alternative activity to eating

5 Almost Free Things To Do This Weekend 11.12.10

Guest Contributor: Miss Cozy

Because of the cold weather, we usually bundle up more. As we go in and out
of temperature-controlled rooms or the thermometer rises and falls during
the day, we tend to be overdressed, causing moisture to be lost through
perspiration. For winter wear, we often choose irritating fabrics like wool
that can cause friction, more dryness, and accompanying itching and flaking. Or we may select materials (i.e., leather, nylon) that don’t allow the skin to breathe; this creates dampness that can trap bacteria against the skin
which, over the long run, causes irritations.

When dressing for winter, use non-irritating fabrics such as cotton, which
doesn’t trap moisture on the skin’s surface and can be worn for warmth or
coolness. Keep in mind, however, that cotton once wet, does not dry quickly. The best material for “wicking away” moisture from the skin is a synthetic material, like polyester or polypropylene. Also, it is best to dress in layers, so that you can add and remove clothing items to suit the changes in temperature.

5 Almost Free Things To Do This Weekend 11.6.10

Guest Contributor: Miss Cozy

As the air gets drier in the colder weather, it’s time to start moisturizing to the max!  Might also want to switch to heavier creams during this time of year.  This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to change lines or companies, since most skin-care lines have a variety of products to meet different needs. Switching between lighter to heavier creams, can rejuvenate your whole skin-care process. Now is a good time to try lotions that contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic or lactic acid, which are highly recommended to reverse dry skin and invisible lines at a deeper level.
