Lose Weight By Accident: Are you eating past 8 pm?

Guest contributor: Kavita Jhaveri-Patel

Fun Fat Fact: Sumo wrestlers gain weight by eating late at night.

Even health coaches every now and then have the impulse to want to lose a couple of lbs, so how do I do it, and how quickly does it work? Well, right now I am getting ready to attend a bachlorette party in St. Martin the first weekend in March. I am so excited because it is my BFFs bach, but also because I am so ready to get out of the snow and to warm tropical weather. The only thing I am not looking so forward to is…wearing my bikini!

I have noticed lately that because it gets dark at around 5:00 pm, my dinner eating schedule is way off. So, sometimes I find myself eating later, like around 8:30 -
9:00 pm at night. So as of a couple of days ago, I have implemented the number one way I lose the most weight in a healthy quick way. Not eating after 8:00 pm.

Our bodies run on a biological clock. That clock tells us when it is time to wake up and go to sleep. Our patterns coincide purposefully with the cycle of the sun and the moon. So, eating past 8:00 pm is a no no. It is a no no because our bodies start to move into sleep mode making it difficult for our bodies to digest as quickly as it does during the day.

Benefits of eating before 8:00 pm!

  • Quick weight loss because your body is not running on overtime, making it go into emergency mode, which translates to stop burning fat, conserve!
  • Food doesn’t sit in your stomach overnight, making you feel bloated in the morning.
  • Allows you to wake up the next morning with more energy.
  • Allows you to feel lighter, and improves your digestion.

Lose Weight By Accident: Fiber Magic

Guest contributor: Kavita Jhaveri-Patel

I don’t know if it is just me, but I have been seeing commercial after commercial on fiber. Anything from orange flavored chalky powders that mix easily into water to fiber packed chocolate bars.

Fiber is absolutely necessary especially when you are feeling plugged up, bloated, fat, and totally uncomfortable. However these quick methods of getting fiber may help you in the short term; but as soon as you are done with the chalky stuff, guess what happens. You are right back where you started…stuck…. literally!

So how do we permanently resolve this? You CAN incorporate the right sources of fiber into your diet, and not only will you regulate yourself, but you will also lose belly fat by accident. How good does that sound?

Here are my TOP 3 quick and easy natural fiber sources:

Avocados: The most fabulous fruit ever! It is tasty on its own, creamy, and awesome with blue corn chips. Oh did I also mention, one medium sized avocado, has almost 12 grams of fiber! I think this is nature at its best! It taste sooo good it feels bad, and keeps your digestive tract working nicely and your colon clean.

Oatmeal: A hot bowl of apple cinnamon sweetened with maple syrup oatmeal sounds like the perfect dessert… I mean breakfast. 1 cup of oatmeal has 12 grams of fiber. Incorporate oats into your diet daily, and soon the belly fat will flatten and decrease your cholesterol AT THE SAME TIME.

Eat whole fruits not juice: Eating the whole fruit, like the whole orange is better than having orange juice. Why? Because you eat the fiber that helps you to break down the sugars that are natural in fruit. The fiber, or white part of the orange, is good for you and helps you to even out your blood sugar levels, hence helping you lose weight.

In order for you to feel lighter in more ways than one, get your fiber on!

Diet For a Better Bust

Guest contributor: Healing Lifestyles and Spas

There are a variety of factors, genetics being the primary one, Austin Powers movie roles being another, that determine the appearance of your “girls”. But if you find you’re falling flat, all is not lost; there are several things you can do to give them a little boost.

1. Eat quinoa. According to Marissa Lippert, RD, in Shape magazine, as one of the few plant-based proteins, quinoa helps boost your pecs. Try quinoa for breakfast or dinner!

2. Add oysters to your diet. Already known as an aphrodisiac, oysters are also a great source of zinc which helps your body create collagen and elastin, key components to help reverse gravity’s pull. Try this oyster and cucumber-radish relish recipe (and be sure to read about the other foods for a great sex life!)

3. Snack on soybeans. Soybeans, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, may help plump up breasts. Try this recipe featuring quinoa and edamame!

4. Finally, having toned pectoral muscles will help keep your ladies lifted. The Power Barre Exercise, practiced for a few minutes each day will add tone and lift!

Just do whatever it takes! You don’t want to end up like this guy.

My 20,000 Calorie Costume

candy costume

The Queen of Candyland... or Glut?

As if this time of year isn’t tempting enough… I decided to invite dozens of bags of candy and chocolate into my home for the purpose of designing a Halloween costume entirely out of sweets. The candy bra inspired the ensemble – it was a birthday gift from a friend last year that I simply HAD to incorporate into a costume. And voila!

From head (a 2,280-calorie cotton candy headpiece) to toe (896-calorie candy button legwarmers) I fully embraced my sweet side… and my sweet tooth. I was seriously kidding myself to think I could maintain any level of self-control while taping, stringing, melding and wearing my sugary masterpiece. After calculating, I estimate the consumption of no fewer than 4000 calories throughout the process. Yikes!

When Halloween was over I promptly cut my way out of the dress and – after a few last goodbye bites – discarded my diet’s biggest enemy thinking: why couldn’t I have gotten a broccoli bra?

This is clearly an extreme case, but the subject of self-control is one that so many of us deal with each and every day. Does your ability to resist temptation change with the season? Your emotions? The people you’re with? I’m constantly trying to crack the code! Do you have any self-control tricks – or solace – to share with me and the rest of us?

And one last question… was it worth it?
