From SWAT Team to Spa Week – NBC San Diego

This morning on NBC San Diego while reporter Chris Chan was getting tear gassed at a SWAT standoff in Chula Vista, reporter Megan Tevrizian was getting a 50 Min Hot Lava Shell Massage and a 50 Min Elemental Nature Facial, 2 of the $50 Spa Week treatments at Quattra Via Aveda in Carlsbad. Fair? Hardly. But since a scary case of domestic violence barricading would be way out of place on Spa Week Daily, here’s the cheery, green-faced spa segment that aired this morning at the 3,500-square-foot relaxation gallery you see below:

Watch & Win TOMORROW on Dr. Oz! Sneak Peek

Get ready for it… we’re going to be on Dr. Oz tomorrow! If you had a chance to read Behind The Scenes at Dr. Oz last week, you know all about the segment and you saw the SNL studios (that days later produced this terrible spa sketch), BUT you read the wrong Dr. Oz air date! My apologies.

Airing: TOMORROW, Friday February 4th

We hope you set your DVRs so you can watch, and even better, so you can see how to WIN $100 Spa Week Gift Cards and other goodies.

Click HERE for the commercial preview—check out the crowd going wild! I especially enjoy the first woman in purple shaking her hands in jubilee. Can you spot the audience member getting a massage? Can you spot me in my Spa Week T-shirt for half a millisecond?

Check for Dr. Oz Showtimes in your area. In New York it airs at 3 PM on Fox 5.

See you on TV!

Wait, no, you’ll see us. :)

Behind the Scenes at Dr. Oz (Plus: WIN a $100 GC!)

We got a call on Monday from the producers of the Dr. Oz show—they needed an amazing finale giveaway for one of the doc’s Sweeps Week episodes. Oprah settles for Volkswagens and trips to Australia to end her Favorite Things episodes, but Dr. Oz, who landed #3 on Forbes’ 2011 most influential celebrities, takes it up a notch: $100 Spa Week Gift Cards.

Yesterday, half the Spa Week staff along with the talent from some of Manhattan’s finest spas gathered at 30 Rock to tape the episode. The audience went wild as we all ran and cheered and swarmed the audience, spoiling them in massages and gift cards. No photos were allowed, thus the superimposing above. But my friend who works at Dr. Oz surprised me and snagged this sneak peak. (Thanks Corey!)

UPDATE: On February 4th (NOT 7th as previously mentioned) the show will air, and you don’t want to miss it because you’ll want to see our shining faces and Spa Week T-Shirts, and…

Dr. Oz will be giving 100 $100 Spa Week Gift Cards away to viewers at home! (Giveaway will begin February 7th)

Plus a bunch of other great giveaways. Watch it for instructions on how to enter. You know I would rather YOU win than anyone else.

Thank you to the spas who joined us… and for those incredible massages while we waited ;)

Susan Ciminelli from Susan Ciminelli Day Spa & Salon
Yaffa Rabe from Dorit Baxter New York Day Spa
Erika Bloom and Brynne Billingsley from Erika Bloom Pilates Plus
Anna Crean-Weiner from Spa Merge
Amber Stores, Sharada Maddox and Lucy Travieso from The Back Room Hand & Foot Spa at Carol’s Daughter
Cristina Parente from the Office of Integrative Medicine

We all missed almost a full day of work to be there, but it was totally worth it. We hung out in the Saturday Night Live studio for most of the day, where we pondered how small the set looked in real life, in awe of the magic of film making (comedy sketches). Don’t you agree?

Then we were taken to the Dr. Oz studio two flights down for a practice run-through.

Of course, a day at 30 Rock is hardly complete without a little snooping… did I mention no photos allowed? Oops!

This is Mary Katherine Gallagher’s uniform. SUPERSTAR!

Go set your DVRs for Dr. Oz on February 4th… NOW!

Whoopi’s Spa Week Face

Whoopi goldberg the view

This week on The View, they gave $100 Spa Week Gift Cards to the entire studio audience in celebration of the national spa-liday that brings $50 treatments to all. To watch the clip, click HERE and go to 16:20 (if only for the Russell Brand interview immediately afterwards), but Whoopi’s happy dance (imagine it to the tune of a screaming, spa-loving studio audience) pretty much sums it all up.

Despite the inconclusive dispute over the summer, this act of spa-ness was a great deed for both the spa industry and its consumers.

Hot & Cold Stone Massage (Most Blissful News Ever)

“I am afraid that not enough people know about Spa Week, and they need to that it exists.”

You got that right, sista. Host Kim Carrigan knows the value of getting pampered, especially when it’s for a good value. She brought on Belinda Gosselin of Bliss Spa & Salon outside of Boston to preview one of the top treatments for Fall Spa Week, a Hot & Cold Stone Massage.

One of the questions Kim asked was: “What’s the benefit of a stone versus just using your hands?” Belinda responded, “You can actually get a deeper tissue massage with a stone without being too abrasive, because they are smooth and they can go into the key areas.”

Watch the full Fox segment for more on Spa Week and the Hot & Cold Stone massage (one of the top spa trends for Fall). Book it, my stressed out Bostonites, and if you’re elsewhere click here.
