Doctors Performing More Beauty Treatments

According to ZocDoc, an app used for booking doctor and dentist appointments, there’s been a huge increase in beauty services over the past year. To be exact, a 133% increase in bookings for beauty treatments like hair removal, Botox, and teeth whitening.

Here’s a breakdown of the treatments that have surged in popularity over the previous year:

  • Botox +111%
  • Teeth Whitening +339%
  • Fillers +76%
  • Anti-Aging Treatments +34%
  • Hair Removal +132%
  • Laser Skin Treatments +134%
  • Chemical Peels / Laser Resurfacing +411%
  • Invisalign Consultations +174%
  • Rhinoplasty +68%
  • Hair Loss Procedures +126%
  • Braces Consultations +175%

Are more doctors than ever offering beauty services, or are these treatments simply becoming more affordable? We may never know why Americans are getting more aesthetic services than ever. But we do know that this April, you can find tons of the above services on sale during Spa Week! We’ll announce the participating spas VERY soon, so if you’re interested in chemical peels, laser hair removal, or even Botox, get ready to save a ton of money…

Spas For Kids And Teens

spas for kids and teens Scooops Kid Spa Great Wolf

By Dawn Smith, Hot Mom Spa Squad member and author of Not Just A Mommy

Spa treatments are not just for grown-ups…kids and teens are going mad for a day of pampering!  Since I only have young boys, I only recently became aware of the phenomenon on a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge.

I took a peek at their Scooops Kid Spa where guests ages 4-15 don pink robes and sit atop ice cream cone-shaped stools and a oversized banana split sofa for manis, pedis and facials. Plus, you can package them together for a mommy (or grandma or auntie) and me day, or a special birthday celebration with a few friends. Available at all 11 Great Wolf Lodge locations, it’s a fun way to wind down after the craziness of a family vacation.

Here are a few other fab spots the special young people in your life can relax and unwind in a spa-like setting:

Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques

Many moms already know about the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques of Disney –  there’s a location at  Disneyland in Anaheim, two locations at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and one aboard the Disney cruise ship, Fantasy.

For those who don’t, little girls from 3 to 12 years old can be transformed from head to toe into little princesses by a Fairy Godmother-in-Training. With an elaborate hair style, elegant princess accessories, and even a make-up application, your little girl will feel like royalty. There’s also a package option for boys.

Caudalie Opens First-Ever Boutique

If you’re a fan of spas — or beauty products — you’ve certainly heard of French brand Caudalie.

In 1999, the first Caudalie “Vinothérapie” spa was opened within founder Mathilde Thomas’ family vineyard in Bordeaux. After discovering a hot spring beneath her Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard — not to mention all of the beneficial properties of grape extracts — Mathilde realized she was literally sitting on a goldmine. A skin and body care goldmine, that is.

While most of us can only dream of a merlot wrap, wine bath, or other treatment at the Caudalie spa in Bordeaux (though it is on our bucket list!), the Caudalie product line is a much more achievable luxury.  Caudalie’s take-home treatments are found at the ultra-luxe Caudalie spa in the Plaza hotel, nearly every Sephora store, and (as of this month!) at the brand’s very first boutique in New York City.

But before you assume all of the products are out of your price range, think again: Two favorites, the Divine Oil and Beauty Elixir, are priced under $50. The Divine Oil ($48), which Mathilde told us she “wanted to smell like the French Riviera,” is a moisturizing multi-purpose blend of grape, hibiscus, sesame and argan oils. Use it on dry cuticles, split ends, or all over your body. The best part is that incredible smell we mentioned — a mix of flowers, the sun, and the beach.

The best-selling Beauty Elixir ($18) is a makeup artist staple to instantly tighten pores and boost radiance. Simply shake and spray the elixir (containing grape, orange blossom, rose, balm mint, and rosemary extracts) before or after makeup for a pick-me-up.

If you’re in NYC, you can find the Caudalie boutique at 315 Bleecker Street (at Grove) in the West Village.

Trend We Love: Spa Book Clubs

We’ve just been alerted of a new spa trend… and this is one for the books. Of course we already knew that reading was a healthy exercise, providing brain stimulation and sparking our creative side.

But now, reading just got even better for you – and the idea of joining a book club just got WAY more enticing. As recently reported by The New York Times, an increasing number of spas are forming book clubs! This new revelation has got us thinking – why didn’t someone come up with this sooner? It’s a match made in heaven and we just don’t know what took cupid so long to land the arrow.

It makes perfect sense – who doesn’t absolutely love to sit back, relax, and read while enjoying a pampering pedicure? With the addition of book clubs, spas are getting both more social and intellectual. Some of the spas are even bringing the authors in to speak at the meetings – a nice perk for the fans and the authors, who often use this opportunity for a nice soothing break from grueling book tours.

According to Susan Grey, regional vice president for spa operations at Bliss, this adds to the spas mission of being a “place to come for overall wellness.” We totally agree, and think this is a great idea!

Spas like The Spa at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, NH (where you can still get Spa Week deals until October 26th!) even offer book club customers discounted services. If that’s not a good enough reason to start reading, we don’t know what is!

What do you think of this idea? Tell us which books you think would be perfect for a spa book club meeting below!
