Linklove: Hungry for Something

Today I enlisted Melissa here, who always shoots me emails with fun links, to collect 5 of her favorite links of the week. This morning we told you what to eat to drop lbs by tomorrow… now let the food times roll.

  • Forget the beach, head to your kitchen? Tan with food. (Yahoo! Shine)
  • 58 ways to burn 100 calories without trying… including hosting a dinner party. Nice! (SELF)
  • What to eat when you’re dying of heat? Cool of with quinoa and some other yummy foods. (Betty Confidential)
  • Tirimisu Custard… guilt free? Sign me up. (Fit Bottomed Girls)
  • Wash that down with some homemade peach iced green tea. Picnic time! (The Luxury Spot)

Linklove: James Bond Must Know About The Butters

Father’s Day is Sunday, and this week’s #linklove has nothing to do with it. But I had to remind you… we have statistical proof Dad wants a spa day and you can still get SpaWeek Gift Cards for 15% off! And now, your explanation for the above:

- A raging Vlogger is “So Pissed at Black People”… for hiding away THE BUTTERS! Where my fellow Cocoa Butter fanatics at? (Afrobella)

- Perfume Intelligence: Next year they’ll be releasing a James Bond 007 inspired perfume to coincide with the 23rd film in the series. Some things never get old I suppose; here are Bond-y scents from years past. (BellaSugar)

- So, Kim Kardashian’s wedding registry at GEARY’S leaked like wild (surely an accident, that Kim is so modest). Wouldn’t life be sweeter with a $710 sugar bowl? (The Frisky)

- Turn a negative into a positive… with a DIY lamp made out of the negatives of your old photos. (The Luxury Spot)

- Peep these gorgeous photos of the earth from above, and have an out of this world weekend! (LiveFastMag)

Linklove: Scorching Hot Edition

Some spa must have left their sauna open, because this heatpocalypse has been a killer. Sadly I mean that seriously – 4 elderly people died this week because of heat related illnesses. PLEASE be careful out there and drink lots of water, and if you have asthma or anything of the sort, stay inside, away from the heatwave, where the air is safe.

And now, on a brighter note, cool off with these HOT links:

Oh, your AC is broken too? Well, there’s a penguin from Antarctica walking around Japan picking up fish for his family at the market who isn’t complaining at all. (The Luxury Spot.)

Here Comes The Sun! Learn how to play the sunny Beatles song on the coolest musical instrument of the moment: the Les Paul Google Guitar (PC Mag)

Today’s “hot” story on Refinery – Suri Cruise owns over $150,000 worth of shoes as part of an estimated $3.2 million wardrobe. Actually, this just makes me want to barf. (Refinery 29)

Plus size models on the cover of Italian Vogue‘s June issue hit the mark: “…especially curvy women can be beautiful and very sexy.” says editor Franca Sozzani. #HOT (The Cut)

If you’re going to Bonnaroo this weekend I hope you’re not reading SWD right now… but here’s how to pack for the daytime heat and evening chill of a weekend music fest.  (FashionIndie)

Have a great weekend… and don’t forget your sunscreen!

Linklove: Donut Loving Edition

Did you get your free Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kremes today? We purposely didn’t want to tell you about where to get all the diet-crushing freebies today, National Donut Day, which occurs the first Friday in June each year, succeeding the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

And here, our cream-filled, frosted and rainbow sprinkled link love:

First, get all your donut facts and stats from the Huffington Post.

If you’re preggers, you are excused from all diet rules! Eat all the donuts you can, then save money and have some fun by renting your wardrobe from Mine For Nine, the “Rent the Runway” for maternity wear, featured on Daily Candy.

After you’re finished with your free donuts in celebration of National Donut Day, pick up the slack tomorrow with Truly.Raw.Gourmet. Sorbet featured on Your Daily Thread.

And in case you’re still craving sweetness, The Luxury Spot has a recipe for Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes. Repeat it once more: Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes. Is that ever really necessary?

Or this. If you can stomach it.

15 LA Hotspots and Hidden Gems

Nothing comes close to the golden coast! Before I left for Cali I asked some of my LA blogger friends for their insider hotspots/must-sees/hidden gems in LA that they would recommend to me. I have a lot of work to do (and so little transportation) to get around to all these places, but go and use this list for your own reference next time you’re in LA. These California Girls know what’s up!

From Vivianne Lapointe, www.livefastmag.com

Last night Viv took me out to some of her favorite spots in person – Monsieur Marcel for delectable wine, cheese and mussels, then the brand new Rosewood Tavern (they say the steaks are to die for – we just stopped for a glass of wine), followed by a very Hollywood scene at the Tropicana at the famous Roosevelt Hotel. Awesome night! Here are 3 more of her recommendations:

Lost & Found: My fave store in L.A. for clothing, home goods and kids’ stuff.

Musso & Franks: One of the few legitimate old school places in L.A. – like stepping back in time. At least stop in for the best Martini in town…I promise!

In Santa Monica, I LOVE the deelish Italian at Café Delfini and Giorgio Baldi, drinks at the Penthouse, try an Umami Burger, I have heard Manchego in Santa Monica is a byob tapas joint and Gjelina in Venice is a new hot spot.
