Wedding Wednesday: Dress Hunting in the Digital Age

intro_imageWe hear that finding the perfect wedding dress can be a little like the proverbial needle in a haystack. Only in this version of the fable, the needle will cost thousands of dollars when you do finally find it! Yay!

All joking aside, if you’re at a loss and need some help narrowing down your dress options, try the main_imageknot’s interactive photo dress search. Whether your perfect dress is long-sleeved, short-sleeved, or no-sleeved, you can filter through a host of dress options to find the one that calls your name.

Search by designer, or by silhouette, or neckline - or the all-important price range. It’s a little idea, but it’s an overdue one!

Nice Day for a White Castle Wedding

whitecastleFile this one away in wedding news of the weird! Several couples around the country got married on Valentine’s Day in that most romantic of wedding locations, White Castle.

The fine purveyor of tiny hamburgers ran a contest open to couples all around the company. Winners had the whole wedding shebang provided to them: dress, rings, tux, and of course a vast selection of sliders, chicken fingers, and fries.

Two of the White Castle newlyweds were a Newark, New Jersey couple who have been engaged since 2006 but could never seem to find the time to make the wedding happen. The bride told press outlets, “I am thrilled to be marrying the love of my life. I would marry him anywhere.” (admit it: that’s a little aww.) For a glimpse of their White Castle happy future, they need only to look to the couple in St. Louis who renewed their wedding vows at their local franchise on the same day–because they’ve spent every Valentine’s Day at a White Castle for the 33 years they’ve been married.

I’d definitely rather go to a wedding at a place like White Castle, especially one that reflects the couple’s personality, than a generic wedding. Plus, burgers. Way more people should incorporate burgers into their weddings. So, good luck to the White Castle couples!

Anti-Wedding Wednesday

broken_heart_by_starry_eyedkid-1

For Wedding Wednesday today, we’re going to look at the dark side of weddings. (Consider it a V-Day backlash.)

Reason #8743 not to get married: German courts just ruled that in-laws can demand gifts given to their children’s spouses back in case of divorce. Imagine: you have a great wedding with all the best intentions for your life together, and your mother-in-law gives you a toaster. I mean, we’re talking a really nice toaster - the kind that poaches an egg to go on your toast, too. And for six months you enjoy the toaster and your spouse, too. And then things go horribly wrong, as they sometimes can, and you end up getting divorced. You’re heartbroken!

And then, the straw on the camel’s back: your ex-in-laws take the toaster away. Because they can.

We can imagine no worse insult to the injury of divorce than losing your toaster (or dishes, or microwave, or other household gifts.) So this week’s installment of Wedding Wednesday is a warning: don’t get married in Germany.

In honor of the V-day backlash, what’s your best Valentine’s Day horror story?

Wedding Wednesday: Bachelor Wedding #2

The Bachelor has produced its second marriage born out of the popular reality TV show, and perhaps the most scandalous. Last year’s Bachelor, Jason Mesnick, is set to marry contestant Molly Malaney in a two-hour TV special on ABC next month. There’s just one catch.

As devoted watchers of the Bachelor might know, Malaney was Mesnick’s second choice. In the post-season finale wrap-up episode, it was revealed that Mesnick dumped his first choice, Melissa Rycroft, for Malaney (it is shocking how un-classy that reality television can be!)

The first Bachelorette to get married, Trista Rehn, criticized Mesnick’s 180-flip on Access Hollywood last fall, condemning him for being fickle in matters of the heart. And perhaps she has a leg to stand on - Rehn has been married to her first choice contestant since 2003. Mesnick and Malaney might want to take notes.

Will you watch the second Bachelor wedding?

Spring 2010 Paris Couture - Here Comes The Bride

The Spring 2010 Couture shows have just begun! Let the romance unfold as designers of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture present their most extravagant collections of the season.

As tradition holds, the very last look of each show is the wedding dress—the designer’s vision of our modern bride. Off-beat volume, varying textures, with a touch of ballroom tradition have been a common thread thus far; can’t wait to see what kind of brides the rest of the week brings.

For today’s Wedding Wednesday post, we rounded up the 5 most notable wedding looks so far. If your wedding was tomorrow and you had to choose: Would you wed in Chanel’s bohemian-mille-feuille chiffon mashup (with a groom from outer space!), Givenchy’s rough-around-the-edges purple statement, Armani Privé’s light, airy nod to wedding tradition, Christian Dior’s kitschy, goth-y Cinderella ballgown, or would you walk down the aisle in an igloo á la Alexis Mabille?
