Lose Weight By Accident: Bikini Body Advice from Albert Einstein

By Sarah Jenks

Ladies, although we all hate to admit it, bikini season starts literally ONE week from today! Many of us are kicking ourselves saying, “ugh, this was supposed to be the year that I was going to LOVE wearing a bathing suit. Too bad that diet failed… again.” So many of us avoid wearing a bikini because we feel terrible about our bodies.

STOP NOW. Before you change your Memorial Day plans to avoid baring it all on the beach, I want you to consider this week’s LWBA trick, courtesy of a very wise man:

Albert Einstein once said: “Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

Genius. So, according to Albert, the simplest, fastest way to get into bikini shape is to… start wearing a bikini! I know that sounds like a death sentence but here are three things you can do to take the edge off:

1. People always assume a suit has to be a teeny black bikini to be hot. This is not only untrue but sort of boring. Your suit is only as cute as you make it. First and foremost, find a suit that you not only love but also you feel comfortable in. Then accessorize! Put your “energy” into it! Pair your ensemble with a floppy vintage hat, flower halo, adorable cover-up from your favorite beach boutique, and of course a rocking pair of shoes. Doesn’t that sound way sexier than a barely there outfit? And don’t forget you can always take off the layers.

2. The second thing you must have in order to look and feel hot is to believe you look hot, so wear that suit around the house a few times before hitting the beach. Blast some tunes, shake that booty and celebrate your hot self. People that feel great, look great, because it radiates from the inside out.

3. Focus more on your surroundings and less on yourself.  When you’re engaged in your friends, the ocean, the sand or an amazing game of badminton, you’re much less likely to get stuck in a comparison cul de sac.

Your beach body: It's not rocket science... just physics!

I actually just launched an amazing free video training series called Live More Weigh Less, and we’ve had thousands of women already see incredible results based on this philosophy of not waiting on the weight.  I hope you’ll join us by visiting sarahjenks.com.

Lose Weight By Accident: Massage, Your New Diet Pill

By Sarah Jenks

Torture and deprivation seem quite fitting for the typical weight loss regimen. Images of treadmills, six pack abs and weights make us believe that torture is the only way to a hot bod, but what about relaxation and pleasure? That’s right, pleasure and relaxation are actually the most effective ways to lose weight.

And of course, one of best ways to relax and my favorite (ok, second favorite) source of pleasure is to get a massage. They may seem lavish, but they are completely beneficial to your health and weight loss goals (read about this extreme case where a massage therapist was able to tame his client’s thyroid). When you get a massage there are so many benefits that increase weight loss.

  1. Massage releases lactic acid from your muscles which increases flexibility and strength. This makes moving your body easier and more fun, prevents injury, and keeps you from getting sore and fatigued so easily.
  2. Massage increases blood flow to the body, especially to the skin and lipid layer under the skin which helps the body raise its basil metabolic rate. By keeping blood flow throughout the body, you ensure increased oxygen circulation to all bodily tissues, which helps you have radiant, tight and firmer skin.
  3. Massage truly relaxes the body and enables the body to relieve stress. And as you know, stress is one of the main causes for weight gain and retention. By keeping your cortisol levels low by keeping stress under control, your body loses weight more easily.

Massages aren’t just luxurious and fun – they’re a necessary part of the wellness lifestyle to help you lose weight… by accident. So next time you think the gym is the only way to get into that little black dress, maybe you should relax?

Lose Weight By Accident: Just KISS

By Sarah Jenks

With bikini season approaching, I’m sure you’re starting to think about hitting the gym pretty hard and signing up for a juice cleanse. But before you enlist in 6 weeks of brutal torture, I’d like to invite you to try something a little more fun. Kissing.

As you know, we’re all about how to lose weight by accident, and kissing just might be the perfect definition of it. Here’s why:

1. A 20-minute make-out sesh with your honey burns 40 calories.

2. Kissing is a natural high, which we can replace for our cravings for chocolate, wine and cheese. According to Sheril Kirshenbaum, author of The Science of Kissing, lip contact engages all of our senses, and involves five of our 12 cranial nerves. “Electric impulses bounce between the brain, lips, tongue and skin, which can lead to the feeling of being on a natural “high” because of a potent cocktail of chemical messengers involved.”

3. Kissing reduces our appetite. When we kiss, it releases the hormone dopamine, which naturally causes feeling of euphoria, excitement and a loss of appetite.  I’m sure you can remember extreme examples of this in your life when you were at the very beginning of a relationship. When we’re in the throes of new love, we never think about food.

4. Kissing helps you relax. How many times do you go straight to the fridge right when you get home from work? Most of the time it’s just to get our minds to chill after a long stressful day at work. A better way to relax is to have a 10 minute make-out session. Kissing causes you to breathe more deeply and release oxytocin, which gives us the feeling of tranquility.

My challenge to you is to make out with your honey for 30 seconds, 3 times a day. That only a minute and a half! I promise you’ll be thrilled with the results you’re your body… and your relationship.

Lose Weight By Accident: Checking Your Email Makes You Fat

We’re all guilty of spending a little too much time focusing on technology instead of the world around us, from computers to the cell phones we can’t pry out of our hands. How many times have you narrowly escaped a walk-tastrophe because you were more concentrated on your phone than on walking. While it’s cool to be current, our addiction to checking in online may be making our current state of health suffer. This week’s LWBA is urging you to step out of your in-box and check in on your life.

By Sarah Jenks

Are you the girl who grabs your phone to check your email as soon as your alarm goes off in the morning? Do you find yourself anxiously responding to emails on your way to the shower and while you’re stuffing your morning bagel down your throat?

Are you the girl who checks her email on the subway, in the cab, while waiting for your friend for dinner, while your peeing, eating, walking, talking, sitting or standing?

Are you ever NOT checking your email?

I know you think that you’ll feel calmer knowing that your mom didn’t get hit by a car or that your boss doesn’t need a surprise presentation on his desk in 20 minutes (If there’s an emergency, they’ll call). I know you think you feel more in control when your inbox is empty, but if you really check in with yourself, I’ll bet you’ll realize that checking your email is putting you in a constant state of stress.

Stress releases a hormone cortisol that lowers our metabolism and retains body fat. Stress also causes us to over eat, because let face it, ice cream makes us feel calmer. Also, when we’re stressed when we eat, our bodies can’t digest our food, shooting our cravings sky high for more calories.

I have a client who used to check her email all the time, and I gave her the assignment of only checking it twice a day. Yes, it took her an hour each time, but her life completely transformed.

She felt relaxed and centered for the first time in her life.
She had time to read, work out and call old friends.
Her productivity at work soared and she got a promotion.
She lost 30 pounds.

And one day as she was coming down in the elevator NOT checking her blackberry like she usually does, the man next to her started talking to her and there was an instant connection. She asked him why they hadn’t met before? He said that he’s ridden the elevator together a lot but she’s always on her phone.

They’re getting married in 6 months.

Lose Weight By Accident: Get Your Butt Back In The Kitchen

Being that today is the first day to sign up for Spa Week Spring 2012 $50 treatments, it’s also a good day to start taking a little more time for ourselves in other parts of our lives. Being busy and eating healthy often don’t go hand in hand. It’s easy after a stressful day to convince yourself that you need a little fast-food hug. But before your New Year’s resolutions start turning into excuse-olutions, put your foot down and make Spring a new chance for a healthy start.

We’ve already challenged you to think outside the microwave and have even given you a jump start with some easy recipes, but today’s LWBA provides even more motivation to get cooking. Take the time to cook for yourself, and you may even whip up some weight loss. Plus, you could learn some serious kitchen skills.

By Sarah Jenks

When we dial up the engagements and plans, our personal lives fall to the wayside.  And I bet that the first thing to fall off your list of priorities is cooking.

I know very few people who cook on a regular basis. Those who I do know that spend time over the less hectic months of summer making salads and taking picnics into the park quickly replace their culinary crusades during the winter with sushi take-out shoveled down in a frenzy between social obligations. Another hurried consumption habit involves a quick PB&J sandwich after the gym eaten on the couch in front of the tube. Once Spring has sprung, it’s time to get out of our bad winter habits.

When our lives get nutty, and we are burning the candle at both ends, we have the tendency to push, push, push until we collapse.  And the collapse is inevitable.  But the reality is that in order to continue to live life at the pace we do, we must take some time to re-fuel everyday.

There are many ways to re-fuel, but the biggest bang for your buck is going to come from cooking. First, homemade food contains fewer chemicals, low-quality ingredients, and added sodium and sugar. When you cook, you are much more likely to make wholesome choices and know what’s going into your body. This will give you immense energy to keep up with your busy schedule, help you sleep better, and may even aid in weight loss.

Second, cooking slows you down. When you operate at a certain vibration all day, your stress level is going to be chronically high which will drain your adrenals and make you exhausted. Taking the time to slow down, cook, and focus on something other than tomorrow’s presentation will decrease your stress level and center you.

Third, cooking helps you connect. Of course, going out to dinner is fun, and a great way to see people, but there is something so caring about cooking with a friend, lover, or family member. By putting love and care into preparing a meal, you are really nurturing your relationship and creating beautiful space to connect with that person.

All this sounds delicious, right?

Well here are tips to get you started:

1. Increase your cooking habits by one or two nights per week.

2. Have a dinner party on a Friday or Saturday night instead of going out.

3. Check out a local farmer’s market to get inspired.

If you’re thinking that you’re too busy to cook, and there’s no chance in hell that you’ll have time to implement these changes then I’m here to gently convince you otherwise.

Here’s my guarantee to you. Cooking will actually create more time in your day. If you embrace the opportunity to re-fuel then you will inhabit the rest of your life with vibrancy and increased efficiency. It may seem like an effort at first to change the habit, but remember that it is also an effort to spend your days feeling tossed and turned by chaos. So, get your butt back into the kitchen and watch as your life becomes more serene, your energy skyrockets, and your health improves meal by meal.
