Mani Monday: Easy Watermelon Nail Art

This Manicure Monday we’re bringing you instructions for a DIY that you won’t be able to resist—watermelons, in just five steps!

Watermelon Day is this coming Sunday, August 3rd, and we figured there could be no better way to get in the spirit than a festive summer manicure. This one may look complicated but it’s easier than you think to craft this cute DIY. Follow along below for instructions on how to get these nails that look (almost!) good enough to eat–in just five simple steps!

You will need five bottles of polish to create this design–pink for the base, white for the inner rind, green for the outer, black to paint the seeds, and a top coat to seal it all in! You will also need binder hole reinforcements and toothpicks.

Step 1: Paint nails one thick coat (or two, depending on the opacity of your polish) of pink.

Step 2: Use binder reinforcements to create an oval tip on your nails. Make this about 2.5x as thick as you would a French tip. Paint these area white. Let dry, and remove reinforcements (they may leave some sticky residue which you will have to peel off).

Step 3: Once the white is completely dry, place reinforcements again halfway up the white tips. Paint this area green, let dry, and remove reinforcements.

Step 4: Use a toothpick to dot on the black seeds. It is easiest to pour a bit of the polish out onto a napkin, dip in the toothpick and gently dab onto nails.

Step 5: Once all colors have dried completely (we’d recommend giving it a couple of hours so that the colors don’t run), seal your design with a top coat!

5 Step Sun-Kissed Summer Makeup Tutorial

Achieve a glowing, sun-kissed look in just 5 easy steps with tips and tricks from an expert makeup artist!

Summer Makeup Tutorial

While we love experimenting with the latest and greatest makeup products that hit shelves each season, for our normal day-to-day a simple beauty routine reigns supreme. After all, mornings are hectic enough, which is why an elegant and easy look is essential Monday through Friday.

But, as you probably know, elegant and easy is easier said than done – so naturally, we decided to get some expert advice. Emily Marcellino, formerly acclaimed MAC makeup artist turned personal consultant, certainly knows a thing or two about executing an effortless look.

“Sun-kissed makeup is great for summer because you already have a little bit of natural glow,” Emily says. “Plus, the natural palette is easy to apply for beginners because the softer shades blend well.” Another bonus about this beauty guru’s go-to summer makeup look is that it works for day and night!

“Begin the eyes with an eye primer,” is Emily’s number one recommendation. “This is essential to create humidity-resistant eyeshadow that lasts all day.” Here’s how to achieve a fresh sun-kissed makeup look in just five simple steps:

Sunkissed Summer Makeup

1. Apply primer by gently patting it on from lid to brow bone with your finger.

2. Use a fluffy brush to sweep a shimmery champagne shadow onto the eyelid (the football-shaped part).

3. Use the same fluffy brush to apply a matte cognac shadow on the crease in a windshield wiper motion (area above the lid).

4. Use a flat dense brush to press a chocolate brown shadow on the lash line. Chocolate brown eyeliner can also be used.

5. Apply Mascara to the lower and upper lashes.

If you just got back from the beach, you probably don’t need much in the way of face makeup. But, once you’ve mastered the sun-kissed eyeshadow, you can take it a step further and get a golden (faux) glow in just five steps!

Sunkissed Summer Makeup 2

1. Strategically place concealer (a half shade lighter than skin) under the eyes and on T-Zone (if needed). Blend in a buffing motion toward the edges of face.

2. Dab foundation on forehead, chin and cheeks. Blend with the hands. MAC Face and Body Foundation reacts well with the heat of your skin and provides a sheer humidity-resistant finish.

3. Use a setting powder ONLY in places that get oily (like the T-Zone).

4. Pick a natural bronzer and apply slightly below the cheekbone and hairline to mimic a tan. Brush a neutral pink matte blush on the apple of the cheeks.

5. Spray skin with a setting spray such as MAC fix+ or Urban Decay All Nighter.

Makeup Products Used: MAC Camel Coat Paint Pot, MAC All That Glitters Eyeshadow, MAC Saddle Eyeshadow, MAC Embark Shadow, MAC Extra Dimension 3D Black Mascara, MAC Select Moisture Cover Concealer in NW25, MAC Face and Body Foundation in N5, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark, MAC Soar Lip Liner, Mac Lipgloss in Cultured.
