It’s National Oatmeal Day, and while we adore this healthy grain as a breakfast staple, we couldn’t resist sharing some info about the other side of oatmeal — the spa side!
Quaker shared some ingenious ways to use the ingredient in your beauty routine — after all, oats are nourishing, exfoliating, and all natural. Here is Quaker’s recipe for a classic oatmeal facial, including tips for how to mix it up to suit any skin type:
Basic Formula:
Mix ¼ cup ground oats with 2 to 3 tablespoons of water until a smooth and spreadable paste is formed. Add more oats or water as necessary. Apply mixture to clean face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash with warm water, followed by a splash of cold water.
For Dry Skin try adding:
Mashed avocado, apricot (without skin), banana or peach (without skin)
½ tsp. olive oil
½ tsp. whole milk
Sour Cream
For Oily Skin try adding:
Mashed strawberry, papaya or “meat” of tomato
Slightly warmed honey
Beaten egg white
Cucumber or lemon juice
Fat-free plain yogurt
Vinegar
For Exfoliation try adding:
Cornmeal (no more than once per week)
Papaya
Plain yogurt
Apricot
Cider vinegar
