TOMS Will Help Plan Your Wedding

Just in case you have been living under a rock, TOMS shoes launched their new Wedding Collection a couple of months ago. What made us think about these cute and comfy shoes now? We can’t stop seeing them! Sparkles on the subway, Wedges on Wall Street, Canvas stepping out of cab… New Yorkers, men and women, love rockin’ these wedding styles every day. With jeans, shorts, dresses or jumpers, even Wedding TOMS go with everything.

If you wear your TOMS every day and are planning to wear them on your wedding day (with an eco-friendly bouquet), then you are officially obsessed. But, the guys over at TOMS think that’s pretty normal, so they’ve set up a TOMS Wedding Toolkit to help you plan your TOMS themed wedding. The kit includes DIY place seating cards, table number cards, double-sided post card takeaways and invitation inserts, plus these tips:

5 Ways to Celebrate TOMS at your Wedding:

  1. Wear TOMS to your wedding!
  2. TOMS for your wedding party — even better — everyone in TOMS!
  3. Have friends and family sign a pair of TOMS as your guestbook
  4. Include the TOMS mission in your wedding program.
  5. Throw a pair of TOMS instead of a bouquet!

If you need more help, TOMS will help plan your wedding! They even give you an email address to get in touch with their bridal experts.

The kit also teaches wedding guests about the TOMS One for One movement (see bottom of the post for more info) and even urges guests to buy a pair of TOMS in honor of the newlywed couple instead of giving bridal gifts.

Once your TOMS themed wedding is prepped and planned, be sure to snap lots of photos and send to TOMS so they can post pics of your big day on their Facebook page.

Bride, Groom or non-betrothed if you’re in the market for some new TOMS check out the entire Wedding Collection below:

TOMS One for One:

Movement: “In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.”

Gorgeous on a Dime: BBQ Beauty Under $10

Guest contributor: Jenna Nicole Levine

The Fourth of July is personally one of my favorite holidays. Just the thought brings forth (fourth?) the image of mouth watering ribs, macaroni salad, and ice cold beer. I thought I would take the time this week to share some of my favorite BBQ beauty tips, so whether you are grilling out back or sipping cocktails on a yacht (aren’t we all?) you’ll look gorgeous on a dime.

GO LIGHT ON THE MAKEUP: Keep makeup simple and your look light by using a voluminous mascara in a softer color such as L’Oreal’s Voluminous Original Mascara in brown black for $7.29. For those pretty lips a light pink tinted lip balm will work wonders to brighten your smile.  You can pick up Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Tiger Lily for $7.

GLISTEN, IN A GOOD WAY: Since most of us ladies don’t leave the house without a tote bag, might as well keep it full of essentials such as Ole Henriksen’s Truth to Go Wipes 10 pack for $6 available at Sephora. This vanilla and citrus scented paraban free miracle worker will remove any makeup that starts to melt off your face, and immediately brightens skin. Remember to reapply sun block after cleansing!  Since you will be noshing on some BBQ it’s handy to carry GoSmile teeth whitening ampoules in Green Apple with you.  A 7 count pack of this product will set you back only $10, and the polishing and whitening effect will keep those pearly whites looking effortlessly flashy, keep your breath smelling not like a burger, and they taste delicious.

PUT AWAY THAT BLOWDRYER: The summer is a great time to let your beach hair take over. For loose flirty curls spritz Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly spray gel $3.99 available at Drugstore.com through damp locks, scrunch for 2 minutes, and let the sun set your waves.  If you would prefer to keep your hair off your face, try a side braid, a low pony, or maybe it’s time to do something totally new.  For hair-back styling tips, re-read 7 Summer Beauty Trends from Allure’s Editor-at-Large, or check out this awesome piece on FashionIndie, 8 Tie Alternatives to Up Your Do.

Enjoy your long weekend… and have some American Pie!

Chez Dédé À La Plage, A Beachy Italian Romance

Italy bears many wonders, from fresh mozzarella to facials and massages – I learned this first hand as I blogged my journey through Rome and Tuscany back in November. You may remember me making pasta from scratch with the chef at Antico Casale di Scansano, having my cake and bathing in it too, and swearing off PAM for the rest of my life… Italy has changed me for the better, and for good.

Daria Reina in her atelier kitchen

Towards the end of my trip I let up on the blogging to let relaxation fully kick in, but there was one inspiring person I deprived you of meeting (no, not Professor Bene). Her name is Daria Reina, and she and her artist husband Andrea Ferolla were in the early stages of launching an impossibly chic handbag collection under their label Chez Dédé. Dédé, I later learned from Daria, is a fanciful combination of their names (Da, drea). The owner of Wonderfool spa, Prospero, sold their debut collection in his spa, where I discovered them. The designs were unlike any in existence, with quirky animal cutouts on Palm Beach-meets-Tokyo patterns. The construction, utilitarian yet feminine;  the shapes, unusual yet practical. Most notably, the branding was addictive.

Prospero invited me out to dinner with some of his friends including the very-much-in-love Chez Dédé duo, and Daria invited me to come and visit her atelier the very next day. What a treat! She and Andrea, who operate an acclaimed, exclusive branding and web design business in Italy (check out their inimitable portfolio), work out of a house-like space as artful and Italian as their very souls. Andrea keeps to himself most of the time, but Daria balances them out, being one of the friendliest people I met in Italy (and that’s saying a lot). She made us strong cocktails, showed me their lush patio for parties in the summer (she said I’d have to come back for one!), and gave me an awe-inspiring tour of her work and all her works in progress. I couldn’t stop taking photos.

A few weeks ago I was delighted to receive an invitation, as promised, to their first summer shindig. As sad as I was to not be able to hop on a plane for the occasion, the invitation came with the exciting news that it was in celebration of Chez Dédé’s newest launch: “Dédé À La Plage”, their Spring/Summer 2011 collection! One browse through, and that’s amore. And it wasn’t just me – Daria told me, “At the presentation in Rome last week we had something like 400 guests absolutely in love with the collection.”

The carne of the collection are the beach bags, but they also made bracelets, man scarfs and pochettes for beach and not. Take a look at some of the designs below and more on chezdede.com. Each bag is named after a different beach destination, from Santorini to Kenya to The Hamptons – obsessed! Although Chez Dédé is not yet available in the states (only at Wonderfool and one other store in Rome), if you would like to order one, contact me and I will give you the hookup! Because when these bags are all over The Hamptons next summer, you know you’ll want to say you had it prima.

The prices of bags range between 330€ and 475€ for the big model, and 250€ for the small. The pareo cost 168€, men scarfs 138€, and leather bracelets 117€. The beach pochette 125€. Email me at michelle at spaweekmedia dot com if you’re interested in ordering one from the US, and check it all out at chezdede.com.

And for old time’s sake… Spa-rrividerci!

Spa Glossary: Reflexology, Six Inch Stiletto Salvation

Column by: Shelby Jones, Public Relations Manager, ISPA

It’s all Carrie Bradshaw’s fault. Ever since she first started stepping out in Manolos, Jimmy Choos and Louboutins on Sex and the City feet around the world have been suffering. Ladies (and some guys) will pay a pretty penny for designer shoes, but many of us won’t put any money down when it comes to taking care of our feet. After stuffing your toes into six-inch stilettos they are probably swelling, blistering and aching.

So what’s a stylish girl to do? The answer lies at the spa (of course!) and there’s one treatment that will make you feel like you’re walking on air. Reflexology is an ancient Chinese technique that uses pressure point massage (usually on the feet, but can also be performed on the hands and ears) to restore the flow of energy throughout the body.

It’s also known as zone therapy, a turn-of-the-century practice developed by three American physicians. In their view, energy travels from critical zones of the body and ends its journey in the feet. Charts showing which zones correspond to which internal organs are utilized during the treatment. The theory is that when excessive granular texture is felt in the feet as pressure is applied, it indicates the presence of uric acid crystallization which could lead to gout and kidney stones. By rubbing the crystals on the nerve endings in the soles, a reflex reaction is supposedly set up between the zone and its associated body part. Reflexology will not only make your feet feel fabulous, but it’s also recommended for chronic conditions such as asthma, headaches and migraines.

Even if you can’t make it to the spa, reflexology is one massage technique that you can do yourself or have a partner perform on you. Coupled with a pedicure, reflexology is the perfect remedy to get your feet back in shape and ready to tackle your favorite pair of heels.
