Super Bowl Spirit: Leading Your Team to Success

Guest contributor: Shelby Jones, ISPA Public Relations Manager

It’s Super Bowl week (A.K.A. a free license to pig out on hot wings, beer and chips) and sports fans across the nation are gearing up to cheer for the Pittsburgh Steelers (black and yellow) or the Greenbay Packers (cheeseheads). No matter which team you’re rooting for on Sunday they both understand the importance of strong leadership.

Mike Tomlin, Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl in Super Bowl XLIII. His leadership philosophy focuses on learning from your mistakes, “From my perspective, you learn more in failure than you do in success.”

Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, had a lot to live up to when Brett Farve made his exit, but under his leadership the Packers have returned to the big game. He believes in creating personal relationships, “As a leader and a quarterback, you need to look for those moments to spend time with the guys because it’s important for team chemistry.”

In recognition of this major sporting event, here are tips on leading your team to success. Whether it’s sports or business, every team needs strong leaders.
