Celebrity Spa Arrest: Demi Moore

Celebrity Suspect:
Demi Moore

Case: It’s another episode of Skating with the Stars! Unfortunately, while making the rounds at the Sundance Film Festival our favorite cougar gave her best figure skater style camel spin as her security detail looked on in horror.

Spa Treatment Sentencing:
There are so many adverse elements in the photo that we don’t know where to start. The mounting evidence begins from the ground up. Celebrity or not, who wears 4 inch stilettos in the midst of a snow storm? Around this time of year Park City Utah is known for great skiing conditions, so why was Demi unprepared? We can only imagine the bumps and bruises she had to soothe after such a tumble. Upon her return from Utah we’re sending the California girl to a celeb spa haven. Skin Beauty Bar in Studio City, California has a growing A-list roster including Madonna, Eva, and even Demi herself. A body treatment is definitely in order so we’re sending Demi to get a 50 Minute Session from The Massage God (sounds heavenly) for $65. Check out more spa deals in your area.

Ask A Spa Expert. Or The President.

Did you know that today at 2:30 PM, President Obama is answering questions live on YouTube? Yes, thanks to Google and our transparent government (or something like that) you can pose your query here and hope that enough people vote on your question to catch Mr. President’s attention.

However, there are some things you just can’t ask the president. For example: how much to tip for a facial, what age to start your anti-aging routine, or what to do if you get aroused during a massage. That’s where I come in.

I’ve recently launched Ask Michelle Joni in an effort to address all your deepest darkest spa questions, so now is the time to ASK AWAY. You can email me at michelle(at)spaweekmedia(dot)com, tweet me at @SPAWEEK or @michellejoni, write it on our Facebook wall, comment below, send it in a package with a lifetime supply of popchips… whatever!

Our partner ISPA is also looking for some good questions from Spa Week Daily readers for their Ask A Spa Expert column in their annual issue of LiveSpa, which comes out in the Spring. If you don’t see your question answered here, you may see your name in lights in the most internationally significant consumer spa publication. Or, we’ll keep you anonymous if you’d prefer.

Really looking forward to hearing from you!

Behind the Scenes at Dr. Oz (Plus: WIN a $100 GC!)

We got a call on Monday from the producers of the Dr. Oz show—they needed an amazing finale giveaway for one of the doc’s Sweeps Week episodes. Oprah settles for Volkswagens and trips to Australia to end her Favorite Things episodes, but Dr. Oz, who landed #3 on Forbes’ 2011 most influential celebrities, takes it up a notch: $100 Spa Week Gift Cards.

Yesterday, half the Spa Week staff along with the talent from some of Manhattan’s finest spas gathered at 30 Rock to tape the episode. The audience went wild as we all ran and cheered and swarmed the audience, spoiling them in massages and gift cards. No photos were allowed, thus the superimposing above. But my friend who works at Dr. Oz surprised me and snagged this sneak peak. (Thanks Corey!)

UPDATE: On February 4th (NOT 7th as previously mentioned) the show will air, and you don’t want to miss it because you’ll want to see our shining faces and Spa Week T-Shirts, and…

Dr. Oz will be giving 100 $100 Spa Week Gift Cards away to viewers at home! (Giveaway will begin February 7th)

Plus a bunch of other great giveaways. Watch it for instructions on how to enter. You know I would rather YOU win than anyone else.

Thank you to the spas who joined us… and for those incredible massages while we waited ;)

Susan Ciminelli from Susan Ciminelli Day Spa & Salon
Yaffa Rabe from Dorit Baxter New York Day Spa
Erika Bloom and Brynne Billingsley from Erika Bloom Pilates Plus
Anna Crean-Weiner from Spa Merge
Amber Stores, Sharada Maddox and Lucy Travieso from The Back Room Hand & Foot Spa at Carol’s Daughter
Cristina Parente from the Office of Integrative Medicine

We all missed almost a full day of work to be there, but it was totally worth it. We hung out in the Saturday Night Live studio for most of the day, where we pondered how small the set looked in real life, in awe of the magic of film making (comedy sketches). Don’t you agree?

Then we were taken to the Dr. Oz studio two flights down for a practice run-through.

Of course, a day at 30 Rock is hardly complete without a little snooping… did I mention no photos allowed? Oops!

This is Mary Katherine Gallagher’s uniform. SUPERSTAR!

Go set your DVRs for Dr. Oz on February 4th… NOW!

Wedding Wednesday: Foodie Favors Under $5

No picture frames or paperweights here… turns out the quickest way to your guests’ hearts is through their stomachs. Our friends at Brides.com came up with a great list of edible wedding favors under $5. We couldn’t agree more, wedding favors should be inexpensive and taste great. Splurging should be left to big ticket items like the dress and the ring.

These favors below serve as a reminder that you don’t have to sacrifice quality for price. The key to each is in the presentation. Unique gifts that come in with vibrant colors or cool designs will have your guest talking long after the ceremony, and long after they’ve eaten it.

Chocolate can be so predictable. How cute would it be for your guest to discover these caramel bites with a personalized thank you message. $5 for a box of 2, goodkarmal.com

For those of you lacking a sweet tooth, give your guest decorated jars of popcorn. $2.50 a pint, garrettpopcorn.com; Ball mason jars, $1.45 each, fishseddy.com

Planning a sea side wedding? Salt water taffy in galvanized buckets are great gifts to tie in with the ceremony. $3.25, shrivers.com

Packaging is everything. We fell in love with this box of peanut butter cups. It’s thinking outside the boxy with style and sophistication. $5, ococoa.com
