Itching for a Springtime escape, oh chaotic New Yorker? Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a spa weekend retreat with the girls, turn your Spa Week® into an upstate escape at the Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa in Milton, NY, located just 90 minutes north of the city out in the great New York countryside.
Built back in 1680, Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa is a gorgeous, fully restored historic home- complete with waterfalls, ponds and a waterfront view on the Hudson. There’s plenty to see and do in the Hudson Valley nearby, and a train ride to Beacon will get you a taxi ride away.
Spa Week® staffer Kaitlin Stafford spent a night tucked away in Buttermilk’s countryside haven, and shares what you REALLY wanted to know: How was the spa? Here, Kaitlin’s account of a facial that’s worth going the distance.

Our lives are complicated enough as it is. Luckily, Buttermilk Falls Spa and their Refreshing Herbal Poultice Facial are here to rescue each one of us. This brand new treatment, special for Spa Week, features poultice eye compression which is great for skin conditioning, especially around the delicate eye area. It’s uniquely designed for all of us hard workers to reduce eye puffiness by stimulating circulation, helping to prevent dark circles. It not only delivers, but leaves you walking out of the spa absolutely glowing. When I returned, my getaway partner (aka my sister) couldn’t stop oohing and ahhing at how radiant I looked. I guess I shouldn’t assume she means I typically look ragged after a long work week in Manhattan.
My facial started with a scalp massage… so I knew right away it was going to be a good one. Donna, my esthetician, said that to get the full experience, your entire body needs to be relaxed. So it seems you NEED the scalp massage, it’s not just a perk.
Next came the steam. Relaxed? Check. Pores open? Double check.
Then it was time to move towards to main event. Donna took her time, analyzing my skin and tailoring the products to my specific skin type on each part of my face. After careful cleansing, exfoliation, and toning came the massage. This was to die for. My brain started to wander, melt, evaporate, or whatever. But soon, reality set in, and I started to feel sad that the treatment would soon be over. I should know better worry about what might be, than luxuriate in the present. Donna once again came to the rescue. She would not dream of letting me leave without including hand massages and careful attention to my décolleté.
Buttermilk Falls will be offering the facial, as well as two other great treatments during Spa Week, April 12th-18th. I can’t personally attest to the benefits of either the Lavender Rose Aromatherapy Massage or the Citrus-Mint Pedicure which are also offered for $50 during Spa Week, but my sister can attest for the pedicure. With all the extra pampering that accompanied her treatment, she too, was sold. We’re both looking forward to a return visit. I’m convinced you can’t go wrong with any treatment at Buttermilk Falls.
