Today we’ve got a special Spa Madness dispatch from a New Yorker who has never taken advantage of Spa Week®. Horrified yet? It gets worse: she works here.

Breanna is our resident Boston native, and she’s so busy helping spas succeed that she hasn’t gotten a chance to try any of the fabulous treatments we hear about daily here. To fix that, we sent her to Mamie’s Skin Care Center here in NYC to experience a fabulous facial and report back!

Did you know that by feeling your jawline, you can have a relative idea of when you’ll get your period and how heavy it will be? Well, neither did I, until I went to Mamie’s Skin Care Center on the Upper East Side and it was the first thing my esthetician told me as she analyzed my skin.

I had no idea what to expect as I walked into the building and took the elevator up to the second floor. After all, this was my first time experiencing a spa service in this “concrete jungle where dreams are made of” – yes, it’s true, I’m a Boston native living in NYC and haven’t quite gotten used to the idea that I now live here and can no longer go back to my esthetician, dentist and doctors back in Beantown. And so, slowly but surely, I have realized that I am now a New Yorker and ignoring all of these spas and skin care centers is absurd. So I picked up the phone and made an appointment at Mamie’s…

When I walked into the reception area, I knew I had made the right decision! It gave off such a relaxing and tranquil feel that I felt like I was at home, not in some stark spa where I felt I couldn’t touch anything let alone actually relax. Did I mention my amazement at all of the pictures of models and celebrities like Angela Bassett, Jay-Z, and Iman that flooded the room?

Enough about that – let’s get down to the real reason I was there: to hydrate my skin that was taken by storm over this horrific winter we had. Between the microdermabrasion with crystals, the 25 minutes of extractions (even though I hate to admit that I needed 25 minutes of extractions), oxygen with vitamins A,B,C and E and a special mask that was made up for me containing rhubarb, needless to say, I have never experienced results like that in my 12 years of getting facials!

Whoever said, “Mamie performs magic” was right…
