Spring Break for Grown-Ups

It’s about that time when most of us in the working world (and stay-at-home parents, I assume) wish we had a Spring Break. If you are one of the lucky few in this mess of an economy that gets to use some vacation days in April, why not travel during Spa Week?

Across the US and Canada, many hotel spas are offering $50 treatments during Spa Week. If you travel from April 13-19, stay at one of these hotels and indulge in some pampering on the cheap at their spa:

Atlanta: Chateau Elan
Austin: The Wellness Spa at The Crossings
Baltimore: The Pearl at The Ritz Carlton Residences
Boston: SPA Intercontinental or Gretta Cole at the Westin Hotel
D.C.: Red Door Spa at The Willard InterContinental Washington D.C.
Dallas: V Spa at the Hilton Anatole Hotel or ZaSpa at Hotel ZaZa
Denver: The Ritz-Carlton Spa
Detroit: Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa
Florida: Palm Aire Spa at the Wyndham Resort
Long Island: Gurney’s Inn Sea Water Spa
Los Angeles: SPA at Sunset Marquis Hotel & Villas
New Jersey: Red Door Spa at Seaview Marriott or Spa at Forrestal at the Princeton Marriott
Philly: Richel D’Ambra at the Ritz-Carlton
San Diego: Blue Marble Spa at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay
Seattle: Spaahh at Hotel 1000 or The Spa at Willow’s Lodge
Toronto: Windsor Arms Spa or Angel’s Spa and Wellness Centre at Delta Toronto East

Fuzz Buzz in the Jerz

Last week, all the big newspapers including USA Today reported a possible ban on Brazilian bikini waxes in the state of New Jersey. After two women reportedly got infections from the procedure, the state Board of Cosmetology decided to meet over the matter.

But, if you live in Jersey and planning on spending some bikini-bearing time on the Shore, you’re in luck because the proposed ban has been dropped. According to the AP, “the state on Friday decided to reverse course on the proposal after angry salon owners complained about losing business ahead of swimsuit season.”

So if you’re not modest and have a high pain-tolerance, you can legally grin and bear it at La Salon & Spa in Milburn or Magic Hands Skin & Body in Springfield, who are both offering Brazilians for Spa Week (April 13-19) at only $50 each!

Keep Austin Relaxed

After a successful SXSW music festival (from what I hear), Austinites and visitors alike may be itching for another event of sorts. They’re in luck because Spa Week will be taking place in Austin from April 13-19. Eleven Spas will be offering $50 treatments during that week, including the destination spa The Crossings in beautiful Hill Country. You can choose from a 50 Min Blue Bonnet & Wildflower Massage or a 50 Min Organic Facial, but at only 50 bucks a pop why not do both?

And, if you’re an out-of-towner visiting for a concert perhaps, The Crossings is also offering the fantastic Sweet Spring Deal package through Travel by Spa Week, which includes a massage, hiking, healthy meals, etc.

So go ahead…stand there for hours, head bang, do whatever. These spas will surely relieve your soreness.

Leave the Baggage Behind

Every once in a while, we all get those awful bags under our eyes. After a late Saturday night out, I woke up yesterday (way past brunch time) to a very unattractive, very puffy eye area. I tried ice cubes, but just ended up wearing my shades all day as I ran my errands. What I really needed were Eye Slices, these awesome disposable eye-treatment pads that work like hi-tech cucumber slices. With the active ingredient being Aloe, they soothe and rejuvenate in just five minutes. They get rid of all of the redness, puffiness, and irritation. Eye Slices come in their own case and best of all, they can be used up to 10 times! These are going in my nightstand.

A Wrinkle-Free Alternative

For some time Botox has been the only injectable option for those in want of some tightening and smoothing. Therefore it was only a matter of time until another de-wrinkle option made its way to the U.S. And of course, it’s from France

Reloxin, a type A wrinkle treatment, has just been approved for UK sale this week. Pending FDA approval it will be available to U.S. consumers later this year. For years it’s been sold in France as a muscle relaxer for spasms under the name Dysport. Might we be seeing Reloxin treatments in spas and doctors’ offices this time next year?
